My partner has been told he has cirrhosis. He had a liver test 2 years ago and was told normal. Now he has cirrhosis after being admitted with ascites, swollen feet, jaundice, HE, pallor, extreme fatigue and loss of appetite, his liver is severely scarred.
Is it possibly to go from normal to severely scarred in 2 years?

Was he also told he will need to stop drinking in order to prevent his condition worsening?
My husband was told he had cirrhosis and if he didn't stop drinking he would die. He didn't stop drinking until it was too late and died 18 months later after 2 and a half years of serious illnesses.
Yes. He was. I descovered during his councellor he was introduced to the pub culture by his family when he was only 15 it took less than 40 years to kill him !
Thankyou for your condolences but l really just want to highlight the danger
Sorry to be bearer of bad news, my liver was given clean bill of health one year. 14 months later, after more heavy drinking serious cirrhosis was diagnosed. So if my experience is typical it seems possible. But please talk to the experts.
Good afternoon Concerned1610,
As our forum members have shared, with alcohol use , cirrhosis can worsen and become decompensated in that time frame.
I have included links to the British Liver Trust information regarding cirrhosis and alcohol and liver disease.
I'm sorry about your husbands unfortunate diagnosis. One has to keep in mind that LFTs are very often unreliable. It took me 2 LFTs (which were incredibly normal), ultrasound (fatty liver), MRI (diffuse fatty changes), and Fibroscan (amount of fibrosis). Also, tons of bloodwork just to confirm mild fibrosis. Symptoms can be mild with mild-moderate fibrosis. It's possible that your partner would have gotten a mild - moderate fibrosis diagnosis two years ago had he did a fibroscan. I know that it is not hard to develop scaring in a years binge, and I'd imagine it's especially easier if a good amount of the scarring process has already begun.
