Hi everyone and happy new year!

I made a post here a while back but never fully introduced myself. I'm Erik from Las Vegas. Nice to meet everyone! I recently followed up with a new Doc after my last one back in February of 2020 left me with questions, only telling me I was "Steps from cirrhosis". Unfortunately, due to covid I didn't follow up and kept drinking and eating bad BUT for the past 3 months I have been on the healthy lifestyle (clean food and no alcohol) and feel 100% great! I followed up with this new doc and his attitude towards everything was so much better! I explained to him I have been very depressed and anxious as I feel I did too much damage and that I had gone from a fibroscan of 11 to 23 in a year.

Surely I was "Doomed" ...

He assured me that he was "100% sure that it wasn't cirrhosis yet" and any damage I had he would treat with 2 clinical trial drugs they are currently giving their patients and that "they reverse any serious damage" He seemed very confident and told me to repeat a fibroscan but that the liver tends to go from f0/1 to f3/4 at any moment depending on how you treat your liver. I will keep you guys updated, especially on these "clinical trial" drugs. He is a well renowned doctor from UCLA hep depot who has spearheaded a lot of trials and technologies so, I'll take his word!

On to my question on herbal teas:

I have become somewhat obsessed as to what my poor liver filters since having this severe fatty liver/fibrosis. I tend to check and research anything I eat and drink! I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a specific herbal drink to stay away from? I currently have some really good hibiscus tea with rose hip, cornflowers and elderberries. Does anyone know if these cause any issues? Also any issues with roobios and lavender flowers?

Alright everyone, I've blabbered enough! I hope everyone's week is going great and healthy thusfar.

-Erik

Hello,

The clinical trial with your liver specialist sounds very interesting!

With regards to herbal teas, may I suggest you discuss this with your liver specialist , often clinical trials have very specific 'do and dont' criteria.

I have included a link to our information on complementary therapies and supplements for your information .

Honestly I haven’t a clue. I have a chamomile, a fruit blend and a lavender blend. When I saw the dietician she never mentioned avoiding herbal teas, she did suggest that green tea was very good for the whole body.

Hi Lvone, After my recent liver transplant, I was advised not to drink any herbal teas unless I check with my liver specialist first. Perhaps you might do the same. Some herbs can be damaging to your liver. Good luck, Catfriend (from Pennsylvania, US)
