Wow ! That was certainly quick.

No practical advice to offer but am sure there will be plenty from other forum members soon. Just wanted to say all the best with your recovery and may you go from strength to strength in 2021.

Take care

Congratulations, had mine in feb 2019 for hepC and alcohol but I’ve so been were you are, I was able to return to work six months after my dbd transplant but maybe in hindsight was too early twelve months would of been better but I was keen and don’t know why but wanted to get back to full health.I will say to you however do not overdo ANYTHING and you will get there. Just heal at your bodies pace and that’s the best advice I can offer

So although I’m back to digging roads up doing a really physical job I do have the odd anxieties about twinges for want of a better word, you’ll know what I mean as unless you’ve been through this it’s hard to convey to people

So hope your recovery goes well and you have a issue free life ahead

I think I know what you are saying about the twinges, I have them quite a lot, twisting or getting in or out of the car or just tying my shoe lace. I had my transplant on the 1st of the 1st 2014 so nearly my 7th anniversary but after checks I was told it was scar tissue forming which I suppose has to be expected.

Hello Braveheart65,

I am sure our forum members will share their valuable experiences.

If you have ongoing symptoms - as you have described pain being 'intense' , please seek medical advice - your transplant team are there to support you and may be able to suggest appropriate treatment/ pain killers or arrange to see you if pain is ongoing .

Take care,

Trust9

Congratulations on your transplant x I had mine at leeds 4 years ago, my journey been a bit rough pre and post but best advice post is take every day as it comes...... keep your legs elevated and obviously no salt it will reduce over time i had ascites for about 3 months post transplant it's just your body adjusting from the surgery and also new organ and meds x 6 months and you will feel alive and ready for action

Congratulations firstly, an early Xmas present!! Sir Lancelot spratt has just been rummaging around inside you, so it’s all going to feel weird for a while!! Do not lift, don’t, nothing, leave it, you WILL regret it if you do!! And I mean for months! I did figure out after a while that I could drag the vacuum cleaner backwards, but couldn’t push it forwards!! Take baby steps and listen to your body, it will tell you how quickly you can get on with things.

Walk lots. More and more each day. But, baby steps. You really must take it slowly. But in a few months you’ll feel like a new woman, I promise you!!

And say thank you, often. I now know my liver came from Amanda, finding that out was a special moment.

It is a long journey, but boy it’s worth it. It now gets better every day.

Good luck. Andy.

Hi Alicia

Congratulations on your transplant!

You will feel out of sorts for some time not only from the op itself but if like me the medication but as you start to ease of some meds you really do start to feel better, walking is important but please don’t try to run before you can walk I think it took me almost 2months before I hit my goal of 10,000 steps but of course we are all different,I was back in work after 4 months and am on my feet all day but if am being honest I still didn’t feel right and kept thinking why but here I am 30 months later and wow do I feel good.

Your pain is to be expected am afraid,I was given gabapentin topped up with paracetamol and it worked for me in fact am still on gabapentin for nerve pain but again we are all different.

Your transplant team will have all the answers so please use them you will never be a nuisance I promise you

Wishing you the very best & if I can help at all please message me

Looks like you've had some great advice I had mine 2017 hep c and alcohol at the qe in Birmingham I'm 66 now and back doing tree surgery work so pretty physical. Take your time try and walk most days but slowly and only if you feel like it don't lift anything and look around take in the beautiful world and thank your god for still being here .it will get better and start to fade from memory like your scar best wishes to you

Congratulations and well done! I had mine May 2020 at Birmingham and the best and same advice on here from fellow recipients is - to take it slowly and no lifting! Gentle walking will progress into normal walking and the pain will eventually go. Wishing you & your family and all on here a safe Christmas.

Congratulations, 31/2 years post, take it easy, try to walk about as much as possible, no lifting of anything, rest rest rest. Try to eat healthy, lots of protein, I'm sure you were given a list of foods to eat and what to avoid e.g. No grapefruit, pomegranate or Seville oranges.no raw meat/fish unpasteurized milk etc Remember your transplant coordinators are always at the end of the phone/email, refer any queries to them.

Keep taking all your prescribed medication

It does get easier.

Have a happy and safe Christmas

Hilary

Well done and congratulations

I agree with all the other comments, after two years I am still building strength, but life is very good. (It could be I am Lazy)

The pain is normal at this stage sit down get comfy and each day it will get better.

Have a very happy Christmas 2021 is the start of a new life!

Congratulations Alicia! I am still well compensated (so can't give personal advice from experience) but happy that you didn't have to wait too long. All l know is, don't lift anything!! Speedy recovery to you x

I'm sorry I cannot give you any practical advice about your pain and other symptoms, but you are over the hard part, you have your new liver, we are all different about how we react to the transplant, it does seem a very quick release from hospital but I suppose that is the times we are having to live with, On a personel note I was in hospital for nearly 3 months because of complications including a fall in hospital resulting in a broken hip, but I am now coming up to the 7th anniversary of my transplant and although it is not much consolation you will get through this and then go on and enjoy your life with your loved ones
