I am a new member. I was actually born in the U.K. but have lived in the U.S. since I was a little kid. I wanted to make a post introducing my self and to ask a question or two. I am 32 but have been a heavy drinker for maybe 10 years or so. I've given it up for about 2 weeks and have no desire to go back. I recently have been having odd feelings in RUQ (~2 month) but more in the bottom/mid rib cage (right side) rather than in my actual abdomen and a sore right arm. Its more of a pressure than a pain. Although its sensitive to press on the liver area. My doctor was concerned about gallbladder issues but didn't find any. He had an ultrasound done (~3wks ago) that showed 'smooth and healthy liver, no nodularity, but mild fatty liver. I also had a CT scan (~5 days ago) that came back with 'unremarkable' for the liver. Standard bloods (ALT, AST, platelet, hemoglobin, etc..) are all normal, hemogloblin is just at the low limit though.
I completely understand that no one here can diagnose anything but can I put my anxiety to rest a little? Thinking that if there was any completely terrible damage it would have presented it's self in the US, CT, or bloods? Also, that if I remain committed to a healthy lifestyle of abstinence and exercise I can get back to living a normal life? I realize I have been not good to my body but I just want a second chance to change my ways. I am about to get married, have a happy life, and just want to be there for my future family.
I know there is something causing these odd feelings just hoping its something else other than my liver. I fell into the Dr. Google trap and now my mind if fixated and driving me crazy. Thanks!
This seems like such a great forum by the way, Everyone here seems so great and supportive.
Thanks for reading!

Hi there In my personal opinion, yes, you can relax a bit. Two reasons I say that, firstly, you are under the care of a doctor who has/is investigating your symptoms and secondly because you have committed to making sensible lifestyle changes. Regardless of the situation, these two things are almost always the answer (or part of it).
Obviously no one can make any guarantees, and certainly not me, but it sounds like you have had pretty extensive testing and I assume your doctor isn't unduly concerned by the results - I assume you were honest with her about your drinking?
Assuming your symptoms were lifestyle related, then if you have given up booze and taken on exercise / maintaining a healthy weight those symptoms should subside over time, if not then it would warrant further investigation.
Best of luck and congratulations on your forthcoming marriage!
Paul
Hi and welcome,
Have you had any fibrosis testing? If you have a fatty liver you may want to discuss fibrosis specific blood testing or a FibroScan.
That may provide more clinical information.
Best wishes and congratulations for your forthcoming marriage.
