Hi I am in serious need of a liver transplant as I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver when I was 24 and Back then I was told that my liver was only functioning at 17% and after that I have not had a alcoholic drink since and I’m now 36, I was told that I wasn’t going to make it through the night. But I’m still here, but I’m really really starting to struggle more and more with everything from walking to even sitting down I know that I deserve my fate because I drank the alcohol I just wish to god that I knew that I was killing myself with alcohol and I regret each and every sip that I drank. I just want to have a chance to see my niece and nephews grow up and have a few more years with my beautiful fiancé and hopefully marry her, I don’t want to die because I’m truly scared to death I’m sorry
I haven’t had a drink in 12 years but ... - British Liver Trust
I haven’t had a drink in 12 years but I’m still slowly dying.
I am sorry to hear your story, can I ask you if you are based in the U.K.?
I'm sorry to hear that too! You don't deserve your fate either! Its about time more was done about the availability of alcohol, the huge profits and the tax it generates. The stigma of alcoholism needs to go, its an easy path you don't have to be homeless or anything remotely like that you can be successful, have a great career, even be an athlete. Its alright when they are taking our tax in high amounts so everyone deserves a chance with no judging!
You don't say whether you are actually under the care of a transplant unit. In the UK you are not debarred from transplant because liver disease was alcohol related infact alcohol related liver disease remains one of the top reasons that people are listed for t/p.
There are a great many post transplant patients here or people who have undergone transplant assessment and are waiting - are you in that situation?

I hope you don’t mind me asking this, but how long ago did you have your tattoo’s done. While this may seem an odd question to ask, I just wanted to rule out any possibility of having contracted Hepatitis C.
This could cause further damage to an already struggling liver: nhs.uk/conditions/hepatitis...
Sorry mate. Keep hope and try and be strong. Have a focus like marring your fiance. Sending positive thoughts nick.
Having abstained from alcohol for that length of time you would have thought that you would be in a stable situation right now!Not everyone has a reversal of cirrhosis but most don't have progression...if you have ascites and portal hypertension plus maybe varacies then yes you have unfortunately progressed to possibly needing a transplant!
Having had cirrhosis myself for a number of years my cirrhosis hasn't reversed but has remained very stable and hopefully will remain that way following treatment for the underlying cause!
I don't know if you are in the UK but people are put on the transplant list even if they had previous alcohol issues as long as they have stopped drinking!
Cirrhosis isn't always a death sentence for most people these days and as long as the underlying cause has stopped or has been treated most can go on and have a normal life span .
Hi Sweetheart, I just read your post and my heart went out to you. This community has some great advice and people who really understand and care. I have just been diagnosed with a tumor on my liver - I have never drank much at all, so please don't keep blaming yourself. None of us want to die -and there will be as much help out there as is possible to avoid this from happening - Its hard, but try to think positive and keep drinking coffee x
Your story is absolutely heartbreaking. I wish all the very best for you ❤️
Hi Needatransplant, even if you’ve had no further medical intervention since your first diagnosis, I would urge you to take a leap of faith now and start pushing for treatment. Don’t try to just carry on decompensated cirrhosis is as I’m sure you know incurable without a transplant. I notice you have an interest in adhd, if you have this and are possibly on medication for it that can also strain your liver. Give yourself a proper chance you deserve it as much as the next person. If you need help how to start on the road to recovery ( it’s not too late) there’s definitely people here that can guide you, me too I hope. Just start, best wishes.
Are you under the care of a liver team? Have you discussed assessment for transplant with them? If you are in the UK you can call our nurse led helpline for a chat on 0800 652 7330 Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm
Oh am so sorry to hear of your plight. Hats off to you in giving up alcohol that’s really hard to do. Please don’t say it’s your fate, nobody deserves to be this ill and you helped yourself by giving it up and trying to change your health. Please have faith and think positively. Take care x
Don't apologize for being scared my friend many individuals including myself here can relate to your feelings of fear and understand....
