Reliability of Results?

Hello everyone,

I am 37 years old, I live in Canada and I have always exercised and never been overweigh.

In May 2018 I decided to do a full blood test just out of curiosity. The results showed slightly elevated AST and ALT (85 and 91). I got really worried as the doctor scared me telling me it could be cancer, cirrhosis, hepatitis B. I used to drink maybe 1 glass a week and have stopped completely since 2018. I have been vaccinated against Hepatitis B. The only thing I can remember is that prior to the test I had stopped going to the gym and was not disciplined with my eating.

1 month later, I do the ALT AST test and again, it is slightly elevated.

They send me to a gastrologist who touched the area of my liver and i had no pain and he said everything seemed fine. Sent me to do a fibroscan. Results came back saying I don't have cancer, I have some fat around the liver and possible scarring. The doctor tells me he doesn't think I have cirrhosis and that the results could be false. Asks me if I want to do a biopsy but for now I have declined as I am worried of the complications.

Since then I have been doing blood tests every 6 months, and everything is back to normal, actually the AST and ALT numbers keep improving each time. I am well within the limits and all the other blood tests are normal.

Is it possible that my elevated AST ALT in 2018 were a 1 time event and that a fibroscan might not be so reliable?

I feel great, have absolutely no symptoms, I exercise and eat healthy.

I am just very worried about the contradictions in the results.

Thank You

I really wouldn't be concerned. Just continue with your healthy diet and exercise. If you begin to feel unwell unexplained pain then get it checked out. In the meantime just enjoy life. Hows the weather ... much snow where you are in Canada ?

Hello Was55amg Firstly welcome to this lovely forum of caring people.

Secondly I too would suggest you stick to a healthy life style of good food, exercise and if possible no alcohol, or if you must keep to a small amount as your fatty liver can be reversed if you work at my recommendations.

I too have had fluctuating LFT's for 24 months of a 36 month investigation which I'm happy to announce are now stable!

Like you I too have a mild fatty liver which I'm currently working towards reversing!

If however, should you have any persistent pains after trying the healthy life style plan then I recommend you seek further advise from your GP or consultant!

Finally I close by wishing you a forthcoming Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2021 !!

Love
