Hi I am due to have a Liver Scan on next Tuesday 10th November as my Gamma GT is very high. I'm currently suffering with Fatigue and incredibly itchy skin at night which literally started overnight on the 3rd of October. Has anyone experienced anything like this sudden onset of symptoms. I rarely drink alcohol, my BMI is 26.5 but I did have a heart bypass at 39 years old. Also any tips for my scan?

Severe Itching sensation , Fatigue and high Gamma GT level.
Hi, I was just tested and my Gamma GT is 324 and I am shocked as I quit social drinking some time ago. I also have elevated ALT 81 AST 82 and ALP 133. I also have itchy skin, fatigue, nausea and loss of appetite. The thing with me is I have had elevated liver enzymes for over 30 years but the Gamma is way up now, it is usually around 150. I am worried as to why it’s shot up like this and am going for an ultrasound and will be seeing an internal medicine specialist. I also have abdominal pain as well after having my gall bladder removed. It is very worrisome indeed and with COVID I have been staying home, getting lots of fresh air, etc. living a healthier lifestyle than in past years and my levels are higher than they’ve ever been.
I don’t have any answers for you but just know you are not alone and yes, it is puzzling and upsetting. My levels never appeared to have anything to do with alcohol. Good luck!
Thanks Beach girl, We have a similar story. Mine had been up in the past at 135 a few years as a one off 3 years ago. I think it was ok when admitted to hospital. However it reached 396 after I was given antibiotics a(co-amoxiclav) as they thought I had a bacterial / viral infection. These antibiotics seemed to react badly with my heart meds. It's now on a downward trend and was down to 180 after 3 weeks, I get some more blood results tomorrow and the scan Tuesday. I will let you know how I get on. Take care

Thanks very much that is really helpful, I have another question. Is it possible for people to have Liver events if they have been on a recent weight loss program. For example I lost 20lbs in the 8 weeks prior eating a lower fat diet ?
Hello mattc0312,
I think this is important to highlight to your doctor when you are having your consultation after your liver scan, any change in diet or lifestyle can be useful to know about whilst looking for a diagnosis.
I hope your scan goes well,
