I have never heard of any persistent cough which is liver related & in my experience a cough is not a normal symptom of any liver illness. your ALT is raised indicating possible liver inflammation but reading up your profile it would seem you are in South Africa and have a history of over indulgence in alcohol. Sadly it would seem from other posters in the same country that medical services are not overly proactive when alcohol is deemed the cause of any liver issue.
I would want a persistent cough to be examined as this is more likely to be a lung issue and totally separate from anything going on with your liver. You need some follow up tests, potentially even a CT scan.
As you have alcohol related liver illness it might be worth you having a look at the British Liver Trust guidance on this and see if there is advice there that might help. britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Do you suffer reflux with your liver problems as this can cause a persistent cough
Hi AMORE123,
Have you checked the side effects sections on the leaflets of any medications that you take? I know that Ramipril for instance has a dry tickly cough down as one of the more common side effects.
Just a thought!
Best wishes.
Alf.
