Just checking in.

Thought I'd pop in and say hello. Been a wee while.

I think the last time I updated I was waiting on a tel call from my consultant. That happened, went well and he was happy that things were where they were.

As I approach 500 days sober though I am struggling with this whole pandemic thing. Pretty down and my motivation is nowhere. Work is crazy busy but that's a 4vdifferent type of motivation I guess.

I need to get out of this wee rut i can see coming. Ash, you're an inspiration and I need to take a leave out of your book. We have traveled similar journeys but you're an absolute guiding light to take advantage of recovery fully and make the physical changes needed to support the mental, or perhaps it's the other way around. Dunno.

I need something to look forward to, something to aim for outside of success at work. That in itself is relative to my overall well being.

There are no random events, everything has cause and effect. I need volume, but clarity among the noise is missing.

It sounds like you’ve reached a sobriety plateau. All the amazing stuff that goes with quitting seems to have happened by now. Admittedly these next few months won’t be the most exciting in history.

But you should give yourself a few pats on the back for the 500 days. Sounds like you’re going well at work but need to have a non-work related distraction to avoid burnout.

I don’t read any BBC scaremongering, but I was shocked to read this in The Lancet (I can’t say I’m an avid reader!) about drinking in lockdown.

thelancet.com/journals/lang...

The article suggests drinking hasn’t increased in lockdown and has even decreased in many cases. There is one scary bit, though, for the likes of us. A survey of abstinent ex-drinkers who’d averaged 19.5 months of sobriety showed 17% had relapsed in lockdown and were now averaging 49 units a week.

Just bear with it for now. 2021 will be better.

You are doing really well. I notice on your title info it says healthy eating and exercise. Are you managing to get out to exercise, bike riding, running., or what do you enjoy? There are still lots of groups operating certain runs that you have targets to achieve, you may run on your own but you will be part of a group where you can beat targets etc... thats just one thought to keep you focused on something else.

Thanks all. Not quite at 500 days yet but thought i'd update. I was feeling properly down when I wrote this which is unusual for me and my usual inane drivel that I put down about wrecking cars etc.

I need a plan to get fit again.

Ash - I'm coming for you! ;)

Hello mate, hope your well? 500 days is bloody fantastic I just wish I could reach such a milestone, but im out of hospital Wednesday thank god all patched up once again by the wonderful NHS. If you don't know ive had a really bad month, lost my grandad then carried his coffin into the crematorium with his 3 sons and after that I just went on a 2 week self destroy mission, didn't know how to cope or who to turn to.

Needless to say it didn't end well but I've finally been told for first time since my Cirrhosis diagnosis January 2019 thats its compensated, I wasn't told anything but I had Cirrhosis liver disease, only now a weight has been lifted now I know what I have and a full life to live for aslong as i can, and hell yes im not going to waste anymore of it. What they say.....get busy living or get busy dying....only one choice 👍👍.

Anyways enough of me I've got the help I've wanted for so long now, ive got hub of resolution workers mental health as well, not ashamed to say that as there's a reason I drink and im with them to find the root and deal with it head on, I know I can do it, but we all need some help along the way from time to time, some more than others lol.

You stay positive mate, get out there best you can, walking biking or whatever you can just to keep the endorphins going. Its a nightmare with all this lockdown again but stay strong I know you will, and please don't use me as an inspiration im honoured, really i am but I feel a bit of a fraud with my recent 12day binge and hospital admission, only plus is ive lost 8lbs while in here as there sweet sour chicken is the only thing I can stomach lol.

You take care and im here to talk anytime just not on here as much at present for obvious reasons. Your coming for me you said, you found me mate. 👍👍

Fuck me mate i didn't know you'd "relapsed" (I hate that word but I guess it's the medical term). I'll drop you a message and we can do it together.

You teach me how to get fir and I'll back up your sobriety. If you were closer i'd come visit and bring my Scottish Wit and Charm!

So sorry to head of your bereavment and troubles. I feel bad now for making light of things, I didn't know about your challenges recently.

I never understood the whole compensated vs compensated either so there's something else you can teach me.
