Hi, I am having liver pain just below my rib cage right side as well as pain in right shoulder blade.. My Liver Function Test parameters are averagely normal. In abdomen CT scan, There is a tiny simple cyst in my liver and some simple cysts in my right kidney. As per USG of abdomen I am having grade I fatty liver. I am 38 Years old, with 38 BMI. I dont take alcohol but I am heavy smoker. I was having diarrhea for 20 days and I lost my weight by 8-10 Kgs in last couple of months. When I inform to couple of doctors they told me that liver never hurts.. please help me out what to do? As i am really worried about the same..

Hi I am having pain also in the liver area and right shoulder. Also in right upper chest area.

I have been told I have a lesion on my liver which I’m waiting on the results for

I also have gallstones which I presumed was why I’m getting the pain. I think the CT scan you have had would have seen if you have gallstones.

I am in a Facebook group and I have read that a number of people are complaining of pain in liver area but have no stones.

Maybe the dr could look into maybe having a problem with your gallbladder.

I hope you get answers soon.

Thanks for prompt reply...

As per CT scan I am having Mild fat infiltration in liver.. Simple tiny cyst in liver and some simple cysts in right kidney.. there is nothing in gallbladder as per CT scan as well as USG.

As per USG I am having enlarged liver with grade I fatty liver, nothing else.

My doctors also told me that its not liver pain. I am confused and scared as well..

Hi

I understand what the doctors are saying but the amount of people that I’ve seen complain that fatty liver is causing them pain.

Try not to be scared easily said then done as I’m in the same boat at the minute frightened of the results I’m waiting for. For now get a hot water bottle as I find heat does help but go back to the doctors. Ok if they think that wouldn’t be causing the pain they need to find out what it is.

Yes thanks for the advice..

But let me you inform that I have been diagnosed H.pylori infection in endoscopy.. and docs say this might hurt liver.. even they are not 100% sure...

Hi ,

Doctors tell you your liver can't hurt because it has no nerves for it to hurt(med fact), to put your mind at ease i think, but this confused me until I found out it's not your liver that hurts it's the liver lining(sac) and when your liver is inflamed or something effecting it or the lining that's what you can feel as ache or pain. other things can affect this as well. But liver can cause pain.

Hope this doesn't worry you more but I know what it's like to feel this sort of pain and to be told even by a doctor your not feeling it.

Yes dear.. thanks for the same..

I am scared of Liver cancer as well as pan coast tumor.. I have done abdomen pelvis CT with dual contrast once but nothing big was diagnosed in that. Then I have couple of USG of abdomen. Even fatty liver was diagnosed in both cases. I have also done tumor marker test ( AFP and CEA ) even these markers are also notmal.. 2 months back I have done HRCT of throax.. both of my lungs are normal..

Still I am afraid of Liver cancer or Lung cancer ( Pan coast )

If the liver feels no pain why does a liver biopsy hurt so much.ive had three over the years and I felt excruciating pain for days after

True

The liver itself has no pain receptors; what you feel in your shoulder-blade area after an invasive procedure like a biopsy is referred pain, meaning that the pain is felt in a different area to the one being damaged.

But I haven't undergone any biopsy..

I was actually replying to the previous comment about pain connected to a liver biopsy, but the same will apply to any injury to, or inflammation of, the liver. Gallstones and gallbladder issues can cause a similar pain; even though none were detected on your scan, they could have passed naturally. Please try not to worry about conditions that have not been picked up by either scans or bloodwork, as stress can be damaging to your health.

Hi there sorry to hear your going through theses wobbly moments.

What i was told when had similar pain as your experiencing with shoulder is that it was responsive to pain caused by inflamed gall bladder. Is it painful with deep breaths and coughs?

Mines was pretty bad until my gall bladder was removed. The only thing that dampened it was pain killers which eventually wore off and wasnt effective unless taking stronger pain relief.

I am less concerned with pain I am feeling.. but I am afraid of something big like Pan coast or Liver cancer, though my all reports of ct, USG and blood reports are normal

Good morning , May I suggest you return to your doctors. Unexplained weight loss and ongoing pain should be further investigated.

As you have mentioned fatty liver , I have included the link to our information on it.
