I had a liver biopsy about 18 months ago and was diagnosed with PBC. It's always bothered me that the doctor who did the biopsy struggled to get through my liver capsule. He joked afterwards that he was pressing so hard he was scared about coming out the other side. I wasn't laughing truth be told. My question is, has anybody else experience this? I haven't been told what stage I'm at and so far my gastroenterologist has said no to me having a Fibroscan.

Biopsy
Hi fedupalready
I wouldn’t put too much on being staged, I have never asked in the past 7 years. The consultant has the information from biopsy and will look after you ,I’m sure. How are your bloods?
Last checked around May and they had gone right down from the Urso which is great. It was really the fact that the doc struggled to get through the capsule. It took ages and left me shaking. All the other experiences I've read about said the needle just went straight in.
My liver was so badly scarred, that during the biopsy, a small hammer was used to get a sample. It took three attempts and was uncomfortable.
It did however, confirm the diagnosis and treatment. Several months later, I was forwarded to the transplant assessment.
That sounds quite traumatic. No wonder you didn't find it funny.
Surely you're entitled to know what the biopsy found? I was diagnosed by biopsy too, and was told the findings.
I had to get my results via a freedom of information request. Then I saw the gastroenterologist but he just dismissed my question about the problem the doc had getting through the capsule. The actual biopsy result didn't look too bad. I just wondered if anyone else has a tough liver capsule and is it normal?
