Hello Regarding results from liver biopsy

Just question, had my liver biopsy few weeks ago now. The Gastroenterologist clinic I am under when had it done. Said she is referring me to a hepatologist as for some unknown reason my liver way she put it does not drain properly. Plus I know booked in for colonoscopy as from previous bowel scans. She also said my lower bowel may show signs of possible inflammatory bowel disease. But once recieved her copy of letter to hepatologist, it says unexplained cholestasis. She didn't say that on phone, plus is cholestasis is that PSC or PBC? Or is it different? I think there checking the colonoscopy for crohn's disease. Any answer appreciated. Kind Regards Jayne

PBC and PSC are just two conditions that can lead to the condition known as cholestasis which in simple terms just means that bile can not flow normally to the duodenum. Obviously your doctor is going to carry out further tests to ascertain what is causing the cholestasis.

Hi,

This is one you'll have to wait and speak to your liver consultant about when you get to see them i'm afraid. Its good that they have referred you though as its something very much to get to the bottom of and no doubt further tests that will be carried out should hopefully help identify the cause.
