I started drinking when I was around18, I use to drink quite a bit (I was never an alcoholic but I drank more than I should have)
It's hard for me to say how much exactly, it would only drink with friends, maybe a couple of times a week, sometimes more sometimes less, I would also have relatively long periods where I wasn't drinking at all
I was drinking beer mostly and on a heavy night I drank maybe between 5 and 10...
The past few years (5 or so) I slowed down a lot and only drink a couple of beers once in a while (I just don't feel like it anymore)
Anyway in june 2 years ago I had a routine blood exam for my insurance (they require that every year) and the results scared the living shit out of me...
My ast was 142 (normal range between 10 and 40)
my alt was 54 (normal between 9 and 46)
The doctor told me that it was probably nothing and to wait a couple of weeks to redo the test.
When we did the test again everything came back normal.
To be safe I also did a ultrasound that came back normal as well.
Since then I had 2 blood tests that came back normal too.
About a month ago I started noticing a weird taste in my mouth. It's hard to describe it but it mostly comes when I eat something. I read online that liver damage can cause that.
I have no other symptoms, I am skinny and exercice about 30min 5 times a week.
Could I have damaged my liver at 35 with my drinking history? I know the inversion I had suggests that with the ast being 3 times the alt...but since my ultrasound and blood tests came back normal I thought I was in the clear...

Hi, I know this post was 2 months ago but the same thing happens to me. This is just one of about 20 symptoms I have but I've had blood tests, ultrasounds, fibroscans and a CT scan and all have been normal. My Gastro was concerned about some if my symptoms but everything has been clear so far. The metallic taste happens after i eat something (worse if its sugary or fatty) it even happens after I take any tablets, even vitamins. The liver is a very strange organ, I have symptoms that cannot be explained by all being in my head which I've heard on numberous occasions. This has been going on for 3 years but I've come to accept that no answers are better than bad news. So since you've had clear bloods and scans since then it sounds like you may have had a bit of inflammation. It will clear up over time if you don't drink alcohol. My symptoms were much worse until I quit drinking completely, for the first 18 months I'd drink rarely and not take more than one but it was still severely affecting me. So try doing a few months (the longer the better) alcohol free. On last bloods even though my bloods were within range my de ritis put me at 1.3 which is indicative of cirrhosis but all other tests were normal.
