Hello, I know I’ve been on here a lot with all my panicking but now I’ve ran into something new. My symptoms are only getting worse with my right side pain basically making me completely unable to lift anything and work out in any way which is absolutely heart breaking being a young person who was hoping to get more exercise while quitting drinking. My drs don’t seem to care about my pain at all so it gives me even less hope of reversing my fatty liver. Anyway one dr did order me a CT to get a closer look and it revealed something apparently rare called a “Riedel’s Lobe”. I got my results on Friday and my dr appointment is Monday so I have not been able to talk about it with a professional but it seems to be not documented well because I can’t find much about it online. Does anyone have any knowledge about this lobe and how to treat it and if it’s an even worse sign of my condition? My blood work on the 31st only showed high platelets of 447 and low ast of 18 but other than that it was pretty good blood work and the rest of my organs according to CT are fine.
Riedel’s Lobe of the liver?: Hello, I... - British Liver Trust
Riedel’s Lobe of the liver?
Also worth mentioning that my ultrasound in May did not detect this Riedel’s Lobe but did measure my liver at around 13cm. The CT scan measured my liver at 20.9 cm Vertically but did mention it could possibly be due to that Riedel’s Lobe and idk if I should be concerned or not about my progress due to that finding.
I had a quick look online too, I'd never heard of it either, lol.
There does seem to be a fair bit out their on it and, in the main, it seems to be described as being a natural or normal variant to the liver shape. Albeit quite rare.
It is though something they'll want to investigate further just to confirm that and make sure it isnt an abnormal growth instead.
Well good news in my drs opinion is that between all my tests they say it’s being and don’t want to look into it. My tests showed bile in my stomach so bile reflux and having gallbladder problems but no stones so my drs don’t want to go any further. I tried to explain my pain is getting worse and is everyday constant to my dr and he pretty much yelled at me saying “I don’t what you want me to do. If working and out and moving causes pain then don’t do it.” So I’m here like am I expected to just not work cuz I can’t lift the 30lbs I was able to just a month ago. I’m actually feeling very defeated by that appointment and I have scheduled a second opinion with a new office. I realize I’ve been dealing with this pain for years and it is now a horrible every moment of every day pain and I am willing to look into gallbladder removal if there is any hope of getting rid of this feeling.
I’m actually very sad to know that a few years ago I talked to my drs about my birth control causing some of my problems only to be reassured it’s completely safe. Looking online I find many cases linked to long term birth control and gallbladder/ liver complications. Yes I didn’t take care of myself the best with my drinking but I’m always trying to keep up with my health and try to choose the best options for me and I trusted that my drs would help guid me in the right direction but unfortunately are not willing to mention dangers or just don’t care about your long term health.
