Biopsy results are in- that's done!!

Hi all,, So I spoke with my hepatologist this morning. Felt quite good afterwards, but now confused after reading her notes online. The biopsy did not show cirrhosis, no scarring and no portal hypertension. It did show 20% macrosteatosis/ mild steatohepatitis. The doctor didn't come out and say I have NASH, but the notes do. I thought you had to have scarring and /or cirrhosis to be diagnosed with NASH? I don't understand. I will have to call her back at some point. Is 20% really high?

I do have spleen varices, so more blood tests and endoscopy to see if I have a blood clot or pancreatitis creating that problem.

Nash is before Cirrhosis. So 20% is (mild) better than 80% and a damn site less than 100%. 🤔 Now that's only my uneducated guess, just trying to be positive..doing the maths.🙄

Stick with mild. I like mild like mine.

I'm glad you survived yesterday and that you do not have cirrhosis! In the meantime I shall keep my fingers cross that you do not have a lengthy wait for your follow on appointments. 😘

The key phrases are no cirrhosis and mild steatohepatitis. NASH can lead to cirrhosis but you no you don't need to have cirrhosis to be diagnosed with NASH. I would take that as a good result considering, what it could have been. As others have said, the key word is "mild".
