Sorry to hear about Dad and his situation. Has he been getting drained of his ascites? Make sure if you see building up of fluid he is treated. Even with the current crisis they will treat ongoing illness like this as it is dangerous.

Is Dad following a strict low sodium diet? That can ease ascites. However, there sometimes does come a stage where ascites becomes diuretic resistant. Is Dad a potential candidate for transplant?

Hi, I did ask the question about transplant and they said they think he is too ill, they don’t think his body would cope with it, do think it’s unlikely.

Re low sodium, yeah we are trying to ensure this. And also have got him on the supplements from us dietician..

Hi

I had regular drains for ascites for 12 months pre transplant! It got to the stage where I was having the drain done every 8/10 days. My kidneys hated spironolactone and furosemide therefore they were stopped. My team were/are amazing and the regular drains meant I had a really good quality of life! Some other patients were given a rocket drain which meant there ascites was managed at home, but the team recommend what they think is best.

Hope your dad stays safe and well.
