Just an update and why I've changed my name to The-perfect-storm

I've not posted on here for a while as my lifestyle changes and management of my NAFLD is working well. Sir Rosis is just sitting there in the background sometimes I feel ropy, fatigue is an issue but overall I'm happy how I am.

January has been a bit of a train wreck. I have had a series of chest infections (lowered immunity =symptom of liver damage) fatigue was becoming more of an issue but then you expect that especially as you also fighting off infections. However, a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, this explained the predisposition to chest infections and the increased fatigue that I was blaming on my liver.

Unfortunately due to liver toxicity I am not suitable for treatment with the 2 drugs approved for use with this condition. Also because I have complex health issues I am not an ideal patient for new treatment trials so it is unlikely I would be considered for this. Due to breathlessness and difficulty in talking I am now looking at taking ill health retirement, the good side is that staying off work the last month I now feel better than I have done over the last year.

There's a lot of work to do (applying for PIP is one of the tasks) and I have my up days as well as my down days, as time goes on though I'm sure my head will process the changes and the up days will outnumber the downs

hi there, may I ask your age perfect storm? I'm considering early retirement myself-not due to major symptoms-I Haven't been diagnosed with anything yet but suspect cirrhosis. I'm 65 in june so need a another year and a bit to be a proper pensioner. Not sure I'll be able to cope as I've started to feel not quite with it.... nobody's noticed at work -yet. I'm putting this down to early stage HE which is I understand is treatable . Fortunately I work for a very good employer-so may be able to work from home if push gets to shove....good luck with it....

Hi, a mentally agile 59, but physically sometimes feeling a bit further along.

This has become as quite a shock to me and my wife but I was finding I felt exhausted after doing anything physical even for a short while. A voice problem means talking is quite an effort, now being at home signed off I am feeling on the whole a lot brighter

Interesting..fatigue is the one thing I'm not struggling with which is strange considering I've just had blood test pre Xmas indicating possible b12/folate deficiency- which could be a factor in my mental state. Keep posting - there's loads of good advice on this forum - not necessarily from me :-)

Hi

I definitely think you are doing the right thing taking ill health retirement. I had to do the same in June 2018 at the age of 52!! My boss was brilliant and had tried everything but even though I found it hard emotionally, she was definitely right. Take care Lynne
