Hi all, just looking for some advise. My husband has liver disease and his last episode of varices was Jan 2018. He has regular endoscopes and al has been ok. He has booked us a weekend away but we haven’t flown since he was poorly. He has ongoing Cirrhosis which is controlled on treatment and leads a fairly normal (ish) life. Is it safe for him to fly?

It really is best to ask the Consultant for advice on this. I have been advised to fly for no more than 4 hours, but my current Consultant was twitchy about that even.
If he had them (the varices) eradicated and not had any incidences of bleeding, then your Consultant may be less concerned than mine. However, I can only tell you my experience, so it is best to contact your Consultant and also check that your Insurance will cover him, if you haven't already done that.
Hope you get to go and enjoy yourselves. A holiday can really help.😎
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. It’s a very short 2 hour flight, we really didn’t think it would be a problem but will check it out with his consultant.
Sorry couldn't be more help. I've had many bandings and flown without problems, but others have had a different experience. I did try searching for relevant posts, as this question has come up before, but couldn't find any. Hope you get the go- ahead.
