It sounds to me like most of us have trouble with constipation. Does anyone have the opposite?

Are you on lactulose? That can certainly give you very soft and frequent bowel motions - that's it's purpose really - not to treat constipation as such but to maintain frequent toilet usage to remove toxins and prevent toxin build up and Hepatic Encephalopathy.

Very eloquently put Katie.

At the moment I am dealing with a long overdue tooth extraction. By taking lactulose and not getting enough fiber in my diet, I am experiencing sudden urges and the occasional D word. If you are experiencing something similar, try increasing the amount of whole foods in your diet. Cooked veggies, whole meal crackers and applesauce are easier to digest than raw foods. Drink plenty of water. Your body should soon adjust. If not, or if you are seeing bright red or tarry stools, contact your doctor immediately.

Hi Boot

Re last sentence - over here in UK if you ring or go online to the NHS 111 help line (which you call when “you have an urgent medical problem and you’re not sure what to do” ) they tell you in that particular instance to ring for an emergency ambulance straight away. At least that’s what happened to me!

Hey Angus, I know that. 👍🙂 And l thought of something else.

If you are experiencing uncontrolled diarrhea, you need to contact your medical team because that could lead to dehydration and/or a dangerous electrolyte imbalance. They might suggest a fluid/mineral replacement drink, like Pedialyte, to prevent that.

I prefer ice cream but I really shouldn't. Don't you like applesauce? Haha, my family thinks it's gross.

Yes I love apple sauce especially with pork.it just sounded so American when you suggested eating it.i suppose it’s similar if I’d of said fish and chips but not being as healthy 😂

Maybe you are thinking of the saying "American as apple pie"?

But apples (except crabapples) are native to Asia, and pie is of course English. Surely that makes sense lol. 👍😊

I don't have the opposite but I think I do have near perfect bowel function nowadays.

I changed my breakfast some time ago to oats, and bran, pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts, blueberries, plain no fat Yogurt and skimmed milk or Hemp milk. I've also become a fish eating vegetarian - eating a lot of chick peas, broccoli, onions, carrots etc. I've been regular as clockwork ever since!

in reply to RonShirt

Well done RonShirt - then you won't need a coffee mug I have that has the Bristol Stool Chart pictured on it? I keep pencils in mine, just in case. :-)

I wonder how you came to have a coffee mug with the Bristol Stool Chart on it? Are Bristol stools different in some way?

You just made me laugh out loud at work. Wish I had witty reply. Thanks for easing the boredom of a slow day.

Me too - I love the banter on here. Bristol stools cracks me up.

in reply to RonShirt

RonShirt, I was given it on a long stay in hospital when I was asked every day which of those on the bristol stool chart had I produced. It was a laugh pointing to them on the mug. Puts you off having coffee from it though.

I have problems with both constipation and diarrhoea. It is like a viscous cycle I am on Laxido but it doesn't seem to help.

It is very embarrassing as I am scared to go out as the diarrhoea starts with only severe stomach pains and then I have very little time to get to a toilet.

Hi, I take Cosmocol daily but occasionally still get bunged up.

My problem tho’ is wind: uncontrollable, extremely loud, long, violent and to put it bluntly, very smelly wind. It starts from about 6pm and goes on for hrs. Again, bluntly, I could clear a room in mins. I have to get outdoors, away from all visible signs of life! Highly embarrassing but I can’t keep it in. I’ve varied my diet in all ways but it’s still a daily occurrence.

I know it’s a very sensitive subject so I apologise if I have offended anyone, certainly not my intention to do so,

Is it just me?

Have you tried charcoal supps (if you are allowed to take them). My neighbour had the same problem and his doc said to just live with it and found it funny. Well yes it is but not when it is upsetting you. I told him about charcoal supplements and he never looked back.

Only when the put me on IV antibiotics-then I get real problems and need to be within 10m of the loo. Fortunately only got caught short once and that was embarrassing enough....
