Howdy, I have been fighting Not drinking for 4 years. My Liver function tests are up and down like a yo yo but mostly abnormal. For the past few years I get debilitating pain in my right flank into my shoulder blade on and off, when it is on it is horrible. . I had my gallbladder out in March so I know it is not that. I had a binge last Friday but nothing since. My tummy feels full and I have dull ache constantly where my liver is. Not sure what to do. My Doctor once said it was muscular but I am not convinced. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi canuck68, I used to get the awful pain in the right shoulder. It was one of my earliest symptoms. I went for the best part of a year thinking, in my ignorance, that I had a frozen shoulder. I was told when I was diagnosed with Cirrhosis that the pain was caused from pressure within my swollen liver. You say that you have been fighting not drinking for 4 years. Does that mean that you have had some lapses? If your liver is not working properly and you continue drinking alcohol your liver will not be able to cope with that and your liver problems will get worse. A lot of people on here through healthy eating and abstaining from alcohol have actually managed to reverse things. Eating healthily and giving up alcohol are very important, the two go hand in hand for the health of your liver. Regards. Alf

Hiya. I had similar pains before I learned I had cirrhosis. In my case, I knew I had Hep C and blamed everything on that. I sought treatment for the Hep C, and found out about the cirrhosis before I started taking the meds. It wasn't what I had expected to happen, but I did clear the virus.

Now I try to eat organic, have a variety of fresh foods, make healthier choices. I don't drink alcohol, have started to walk 20 minutes a day. I take 2 10 minute walks usually. I'm not able to do more yet. Take care.

Pancreatitis can cause that pain as well and definately is associated with alcohol.

Well my best advice is to give up drinking and go see a doctor who doesn't dismiss your concerns. 😁
