But from the day I could walk, my knees used to dislocate and it still happens to this day.. Anyway doctors told my parents I would grow out of it...... Had an operation ten years ago where they took some cartilage out and said that would cure it ππ
I have been getting a lot of pain recently in my knees so got referred to an orthopedic surgeon and one mri scan and one x-ray I finally got a diagnosis it's called trochlear dysplasia it's a genetic condition, nothing can be done but it just felt good to finally find out π€£
Hope your all well βΊοΈ

My goodness jojo - hope thatβs the end of all the problems youβve go to tell us about βΉοΈ. Very sorry to hear but as you say you have at last found out what the real problem is.
Crikey jojo, that took them long enough Didn't it? Suppose at least you have a name for it now. Did taking some of the cartilage out do any good? Hope so
π π π You on the knee replacement road? You will have to fill me in if you do, as I will need one π€£π€£ I find it hilarious I think my nickname going to be bionic soon enough π€£π€£
Diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in left knee and hips and lower back a couple of weeks ago. The 3 spinal fractures just weren't enough Left knee has been giving me pain for getting on a couple of months so I guess it's early days for me as regards an op. Oh such joy!!
I heard if you're very active, or very committed to being active, it works better than for someone who is sedentary. Of course some of us might be sedentary due to pain from the degenerative changes to the joints. I'm sure it's like anything else, you must push yourself to achieve the best outcome.
Oh Alf, sorry to hear of your Osteoarthritis, I know it's damn painful. How us old codgers suffer with our mechanical failures. Hundreds of years ago when life expectancy was 35-45 years, it wasn't a problem, 'cause we popped our clogs before anything wore out, except maybe our teeth π€£π€£π€£ I have had a trapped sciatic nerve ( old rugby injury) for nearly 50 years, arthritic knees and hips. chiropractor didn't cure the nerve problem, Orthopedic surgeon (a friend) said a new knee joint would only last 10 or so years, so felt my knee joint replacement should wait a while, until it gets debilitating. ( some friendπΏπΏ )
Hi David. Trapped sciatic nerve all those years is not good True what you say about the life expectancy years ago. Things like Osteoarthritis would probably be as rare as hens teeth! I find myself echoing what my parents used to say when they bought a new piece of furniture or a new carpet "Well this will see me out!" LOL. I'll probably be looking at new joints in that same way now
Yes Alf, we are living too long , the system can't afford us now.ππ I'm just waiting for some bright spark from government to think of a voluntary euthanasia scheme to reduce the financial pressure, although I don't know what incentive they could offer to get takers ππ I am debating whether or not to keep my car, as I only do 2000 miles a year, so if i keep it, it will see me out π€£π€£π€£ My wife always says your not old until your 85, so I might die young yet π€£π€£ Nearly forgot to say , my trapped nerve is not constant, but just a twist or stooping down can set it off.
Hi David. Glad you get some respite from that trapped nerve! We each used to have a car but as I had to retire 6 months early and my wife was the one looking after me, we went down to one car. Most of the mileage has been to scans, appointments etc. Hopefully some of the mileage in the future will be down to days out and holidays I can't think what that incentive would be either. Whatever, it wouldn't be much good to us LOL. Alf
Hi Jojo, It's Great news that you finally have a diagnosis, but not good that there is no cure for it. Is the pain you get a bone pain, nerve pain or muscular pain. I get all of these, and have found that a heat pad, followed by an ice pack gives relief for bone pain, as there are limited painkillers we can take. I also use a Tens machine which is good for muscle/nerve related pain. Hope this helps,
Oh dear Jojo, that's terrible, to have to live with that condition must be a nightmare for you. My son had an accident on his mountain bike 20 years ago, and had to have his knee reconstructed. He is still in pain with it, and it dislocates occasionally.
I know your a fighter, but I'll say it anyway....Keep your chin up.
