Hi fscf

Welcome to the forum!

If I read your post correctly your father has HE episodes but is still driving? If so he ought to ensure that his doctor/consultant says he is OK to drive. I was told in no uncertain terms NOT to drive when I started to have HE events. If he has an accident and the Insurance company find out about his HE they may not pay out (I don’t know this for a fact but my experience indicates this).

I do hope your dad gets his HE events under control very soon with help from his doctor.

Good luck!

Miles

Has you father been formally diagnosed with suffering with HE? Is he presently taking any medication for this condition? If this is the case, then the DVLA should be informed by law, It is the persons responsibility to inform the DVLA of any changes in a persons medical condition that may have an impact on their driving.

I have mentioned this a number of times before on here, whereby people have been known to drive down the wrong slip road when joining a motorway and continue to drive the wrong way. Like Miles has said, if this is indeed the case, then a person's motor insurance policy would automatically become invalid and they will refuse to payout any compensation or any damage caused. It would be as if someone was driving without insurance.

As for the medical aspects of the various changes in air pressure, I would just point out that a person with cirrhosis could also be suffering with Portal Hypertension: britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...

If some of these tiny veins were to rupture in flight then he could indeed suffer an internal bleed. Has he been diagnosed with Portal Hypertension? If so, I would avoid flying for a while.
