Ultrasound today....

Had my ultrasound today, the lady who done it said it all looked ok (I had it on my abdomen and kidney track) as I get stomach pains every now and then and sometimes back pain, although think that’s cos I’m getting old!!! However when I asked about my liver she did say there was a very slight brightness on the liver which is more than likely slight fatty liver - I know I’ve drank way to much alcohol over the last 2-3 years a lot more than the last 10years on and off! Can anyone tell me (apart from the obvious - stop/ cut down on alcohol and eat healthy) what’s best to try and reverse this please?? I do eat really healthy and live quite a healthy lifestyle but wanted to know the best things I should be doing please?

Thanks so much 😊 this forum is amazing!!xxx

Hi Music. Sorry you're feeling so rough. Yes you said it in brackets... healthy diet, exercise and cutting out the alcohol altogether is going to help regenerate your liver and make you feel better. Good luck xx

Hi laura009,

Thanks for your reply and concern! I’m feeling ok actually more so now than when I first saw the Dr around 6 months ago (had to fight to get an ultrasound as all my liver, kidneys and Gamma GT bloods were absolutely normal and because my ALT was firstly 36 but went down to 23!!) with mild pain on and off but she said a was neurotic!! Anyhoo I’m feeling ok’ish now but know I need to sort myself out and get healthier and treat my body as the temple it is!! I have under-active thyroid too so doesn’t help with the midriff lol!! Thanks for you advice though, means a lot xxx

Well good luck with it all. If getting rid of the booze becomes tough, please dont shy away from getting professional help.... AA etc, nothing to be ashamed of. But I dont think it will much of a problem for you, you want a healthier way of life and have the right attitude so already you're halfway there 💪😁👍

Xx

Defo the kick up the butt I needed!!! Thanks a million hun 😘 xxx

Good morning Music, l would go back to the person/doctor who originally ordered up this scan and ask for an interpretation of the results. The person who is carrying out the scan isn't always the best qualified to interpret the images. This is best left to a consultant. You no dought would like to know with a little more certainty than just "likely to be" or "it could be".

If you get no joy, then l personally would go back to my GP and request further information and ask for an ELF test with markers. This is a new, very reliable type of blood test which will show up possible Fibrosis or even Fatty Liver.

Don't settle for "might be's". Early identification now could very well prevent further damage down the line, and save the NHS a lot of money in the long run.

Good luck.

Thanks richard64! I have an appt this coming Tuesday so will definitely ask from that blood test and a few more as all my LFT’s and Gamma Gt have always been normal - scary really!! I am a phlebotomist and have never come across this blood test before but will definitely push for it just like I had to push for 8 months to get the ultrasound (only by demanding to see another gp!). I’m hoping with lots of healthy eating and exercise and treating my body how it should be I can reverse it, I wondered if you knew how long on average this takes to start reversing at all? Thanks sooo much for your above advice! 😊
