Warning: detailed TMI on this post.
I finally had my liver biopsy, on my left lobe at the end of March. As doctors like to write, it was unremarkable and no complications.
The next day, there was blood in my stool and my stool was black. This is not a common occurrence with me. Doctor ordered a panel and my blood count was at 12, I was a 15 at the time of the procedure. He said it was not normal and to watch it, if I get clammy, light headed, go to ER.
Two days later in the shower, I turned to get my soap and a radiating sharp pain was in the center my chest. I thought I tore my aorta and that was the end. Husband called 911...medics took their time with me, which I equated that they were not super concerned because my vitals seemed stable.
Get to ER, run panel, liver levels are high and my hemoglobin went to 11. Ran CT scan and nothing was found. Yet, I was dizzy and light headed.
While the nurse was getting my discharge papers, I had to go to the restroom suddenly, and I’ll just say it was a GI bleed and I was terrified. She gets the ER doctor and he took on look at the bowl and said change in plans...I was now being admitted.
Over the next two days my hemoglobin went to 10, and while it’s still not a horrible number, it was a shock to go from 15 to a 10 in just a few days. I did not get food but only clear liquids...and prolax. On the third day I had a endoscopy and they found nothing. No bleed source. The next day, colonoscopy and no bleed source. My hep panels were going down too. So my liver is healing and I had another panel last week and while they are up, they are going down.
I am still sore in my chest. I’ve had a CT scan and a MRI to find out what this pain is, I have it in the middle of breasts, but lower where my bra resides. The location is my solar plexus/xyphoid process. The bra off does bring relief but not a lot. I had a family member give me a bear hug twice this weekend and the pain was awful. Also I have another pain in my liver...even though there are no pain receptors in the liver.
They found no source of the bleed and no source of the pain. I’m maintaining a positive attitude and talking with my doctor. My doctors (primary and GI) both can’t confirm my GI bleed isn’t related to the biopsy but the timing of when it happened seems unlikely that it’s not related...and since I was admitted over a weekend there were no tests done and by the time the scopes were done, the source of the bleed resolved itself.
So I’m reaching out to see if anyone has had any similar experience with this? Should I be asking for them to look for something else?
