I don't know what to do. I've been refused pip.. I am 47 years old and I was a drug user for 25 years ago. Until 4 years ago I met a drug free lovely girl. With my drug use. I have got a number of issues.. I've got liver cirhossis... My varices have ruptured twice and I did get them banded.. My spleen is permanently enlarged for life. Portal hypertension. Low platelets.. I have got copd... My conditions limit my day to day activities.. I suffer from hepatic encephalopathy.. Which causes me to faint on certain days. I attended a face to face assessment to see if I could get pip.. I can't cook because of my fainting. I need help with toilet needs.. An the assessor told lies. She said I can cook I can manage toilet needs.. I got my desiin today... Please help me

Hi Paisley, You must appeal. My hubby also scored zero at his face to face assessment for PIP despite the fact he was about to be listed for transplant. Go to your local council (quickly as time is limited), get an appointment with Welfare Rights Advisor who should help you put in your appeal paperwork for you and call in additional medical information.

We attended tribunal and hubby was awarded enhanced rate daily living and points for mobility, at his next renewal he was awarded enhanced daily living and basic rate mobility.

Even though you don't have the strength to do it you must fight the decision, most folks get the right decision at appeal but it is hellish that genuinely unwell people have to fight for the help they need.

Katie

Liver cirrhosis does not fit their criteria, you made the mistake of turning up and actually answering the questions.

Take it to appeal, as Katie points out.

The system is ridiculous.

Congratulations on beating your demons and receiving the support from your special partner, keep it going forward. It’s worth it.

Mark.

Thank you guys for your support. I live in Liverpool

Unfortunately there are people claiming who are quite well. They have kidded the system.. I know there are genuine sick people.. I am very truthful.. Just seems no one understands my day to day problems. I know my condition was self inflicted... Drug use....but I am clean now 48 nearly with liver cirrhosis.. My life expectancy is short. I wish I could be young again and go and work.. But that's not the case now.

That is the absurdity of the system. If you answer the questions with the wrong answers, you get the points. Being honest and truthful about my illness got me zero. I used my phone in the reception and actually walked into the meeting room, about 8 metres. Seems to have been a mistake.

Please appeal, it adds to your anxiety.

Hey Paisley, I am in the same boat here in America, I think we look well enough that no one can believe how ill we actually are. I'm hoping to get the answer soon, from what they call here the (second) Request for Reconsideration, I can't wait another year for an appeal hearing. I honestly hope you have better luck than me.

That's standard procedure I'm afraid. Everyone gets rejected at the first hurdle it seems.

The good news is that once you finally get to appeal, you're much more likely to be approved and payments will be backdated to the start of your claim.
