Can anyone with experience with HE as a caregiver or first hand share their symptoms/experience

HE symptoms and experiences
I can only describe HE as being very similar to dementia. I was a carer for my Dad who had dementia. When my partner developed HE due to cirrhosis it brought back lots of memories. Fortunately he was transplanted in 2016 and has no memory of HE.
Looking at your tablet and having no clue how to turn it off, was the latest "blip", it's a bit disconcerting...if it IS like dementia that could explain why my personal difficulties have all involved technological advances. My grandmother couldn't remember ME, but she could sing songs in Italian from her childhood. I hope I never get worse and that I don't get dementia either, praying the same for all of us.
Hi Rstabile
Can you give us a little bit of background why you may want this info, if possible? I could, and have 😁, gone on for hours about my HE experiences and lots and lots of others on here have loads of HE experiences as well. But it helps to know the whys and wherefores before we launch into these things 😁😁

Hi There,
Miles is right in asking what sort of info your looking for. Most people that have had it could go on for hours about what they remember, their care givers probably even longer. It can be early stages where looking at a tap and not knowing how to use it, not knowing what age you are or where you live, through to thinking you’ve had arguments with people when you haven’t, thinking you’ve been kidnapped when your in hospital and through to passing out and generally not having any comprehension of who, what, where, why and when. If you give us some more info to what your looking for we can help.
Oh when your having an episode it can be the scariest thing you will go through, sometimes funny after it but at the time it’s the worst feelings you can have.
Cheers William
Cracking will - absolutely spot on!
Ditto the others. Had it and it was awful. I always felt like I was tipsy and walking in a fog. One Christmas I suddenly felt ill just before lunch then had an episode for 36 hrs or so when I was hearing voices. I also believed I had read an email from my cousin’s wife slagging me off. Not at all in her character and later tried to find the email but couldn’t although I was sure I’d saved it. When I saw her and she was nice and normal towards me I realised it was just H E paranoia!
If you can say Encephalopathy, you have not got it.
When Hubby suffered he was disorientated, muddled words, confused, got angry as he didn't understand what was happening, went missing twice when I was at work but somehow his homing beacon got him home, unsteady on his feet & severe cramp in hands. The worst one was at his mum & dads in Scotland thought I was the watch on his hand, flooded the bathroom, being sick was admitted to hospital for a week
Hi Rstabile,
My husband has cirrohsis.
There are various levels of HE and someone, I forget who, posted on this site a list of HE levels and the symptoms at each level.
It can go from simple things like forgetting where you keep your keys to thinking your wife is your sister.
My husband doesn't show major signs of HE, but I worry anyway. He takes his lactulose as told by his doctors to keep in control.
Your doctor's office should be able to give you some information that would help you.
Best wishes,
Mary
