Just had a letter from the specialist saying my blood tests are clear of hepatitis is this a good a thing and what does it mean
Blood test negative for hepatitis - British Liver Trust
Blood test negative for hepatitis
It means you haven't got hepatitis .....which is a good thing.
So hepatitis has not caused your cirrhosis (if it’s confirmed cirrhosis) so now they will look into what has caused the cirrhosis. They may already think it’s the alcohol but usually they do some checks, such as hepatitis to rule anything different out. Has your doc sent for any other tests or referred you?
It means you dont have a virus thats causing ongoing liver damage.
Its good news.
You have stopped drinking, lost weight and living healthy.
With average luck you will never develop cirrhosis symptoms.
They might want to do a few more tests to confirm the diagnosis (and check every 6 months).
I now consider cirrhosis (my situation is very similar to yours) to be just an inconvenience that I live with and if I behave so will my liver!
It's a good thing! It means you don't have hepatitis A, B, or C.
These are viral infections that attack the liver.
Alcoholic hepatitis is different in that it's caused by alcohol. The good news is that alcoholic hepatitis can often be resolved by abstinence.
You'll probably be offered a shot to give you immunity to Hep A and Hep B going forward.
Best wishes
