QE Birmingham, Liver transplant Support Group – Volunteers Required.

Those of you who received a liver transplant over the past 12 or so years, may well have met with some of the Liver transplant Support Group volunteers either on ward 726 or even at the transplant assessment clinic. Some of you may recall Mr Alan Hyde who has been working on the ward as a Volunteer for over twenty years.

Here this small team of people give up their free time to visit those who have just received their transplant, and are recuperating after their ordeal. Offering support and advice, and even cracking the odd joke or two.

Sadly, over the years the member numbers of this support group have started to decline. This is predominantly due to poor health of some members and also due recent changes to public transplant, has made visiting rather hard for some. There are just 11 active members left, and most of these are elderly people.

If this support group is to continue, then more volunteers are needed. If there are any fellow transplantees out there who live within close proximity to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, and who would be willing to come along and give a few hours of their time (I personally travel down from Stoke-on-Trent). Ward visits are held on a Wednesday evening, and monthly meetings are held on the third Monday of the month (excluding June/July).

Please either message me privately, or contact: liversupportgroup.infopage.... for more information.

Many Thanks
