Does your son participate in physical activity, sports of any sort? Has he had a muscle injury recently.
ALT is not just elevated in liver issues, it can be elevated in cases of muscle injury or other sporting activity.
It can also elevate in response to other infection or illness, simply fighting a bug can cause an elevation and in isolation a single blood test revealing an increase in ALT isn't something to be hugely worried about.
A repeat test some time down the line will check if this was a blip or something to be more concerned about.
In cases of liver ill health / active liver inflammation you often see ALT levels soaring into the 1000's.
