Natural treatments...scam? Or do some show results?

Curious....did anybody ever have luck with natural approach to there illness? Its always so questionable...mostly not believable when it comes to natural treatments. You dig and dig and find nothing but questionable sights with vague treatments that support such and such. Never can find anybody who was self treated and functioning, share there story....?

I am having F2 fibrosis with a kpa score of 7.4 .Started herbal treatment ,I don't know whether it's a scam but feeling relieved from my symptoms like heaviness in the abdomen and insomnia improved .Its only 20 days of taking medicines

60 Minutes Australia recently did a story on supplements.

9news.com.au/national/60-mi...

"When Matthew Whitby wanted to lose weight, he turned to a protein shake product that contained green tea extract.

But after just five protein shakes, Matthew became gravely ill – and what the doctors told him next turned his world upside down.

“They said I had two weeks, tops, to live,” Whitby tells 60 Minutes reporter Liz Hayes.

Whitby had an emergency liver transplant – the scars across his stomach are a daily reminder of the protein shake that almost killed him.

New South Wales woman Merrill Gemmell also found herself staring down the prospect of a liver transplant, after going into liver failure 18 months after she begun taking the herbal supplement Valerian – a common product to assist with sleep that’s available in chemists and supermarkets.

“I was told that I was going into liver failure, and that they were going to talk to the transplant team,” Gemmell tells Liz Hayes."

I have looked up on Natural Ayurveda Treatment for my father. To start with, I am in India so there are many options for Ayurveda consultants. However, finding a reliable Doctor of Ayurveda who will use purest form of herbal products is hard. Yet, I visited one old gentleman, must be in late 60s. Now, in Ayurveda, Doctor checks your pulse, observes your physical symptoms and tells you what's going on. Back in time, they were good, so finding an old timer is better I feel in compare to today's young doctors, who are educated but not experienced to same level as the older ayurveda doctors.

So, upon visiting this Doctor, who was very simple, in India we call them 'Vaid' (A Word for Ayurveda - Natural remedy Doctor). He observed pulse, and saw the symptoms. He showed us his book of patients, where last few had visited for Liver issues only. We also went through a reference of a person, who had alcohol induced liver failure. And, after following this doctor's natural ayurvedic treatment, he was back to normal in 8 months, this was in 2013. This is after his Doctors from hospital asked his family to take him home and as he won't live more than couple of days.

So, this was a very encouraging reference. We discussed issues for about 2 hours with this Doctor. He said that he makes medicines based on individual's condition himself from the herbs and natural plants. He charges approximately $200 per month for medicines and he also said that if he felt patient wouldn't make it, he will tell his family up front and would refuse to treat the patient as it will not be worth and no point of putting financial burden on patients family. He said that, patient must follow a strict diet routine exactly as he says. For example, the person who referred us to him, was told not to have a clear water for 6 months. He was asked to drink a cow milk. He was allowed to take water in minimal quantity with mixing of herbal powder made by Doctor. He said that, after taking medicines for just 3 days, from where he couldn't get up, he was able to walk a little and within few weeks, he was able to move around on own and after 8 months, he was cured completely.

So, this was the review of Ayurveda / Natural Treatment. After this I looked around more and found website of US National Library of Medicine where all research related to any condition/sickness can be found. They also had articles regarding research of subjects based on Ayurveda - Natural Way of Treatment which showed positive results overall. And people were cured of Ascites, and liver condition was improved too.

So, I concluded that where modern science of allpathy says that there is no cure of Liver cirrhosis and only way to manage it is by controlling the symptoms and slowing the progress - Ayurveda/Natural Treatment can cure the symptoms completely and halt the progress of this disease and may even reverse it to some extent after 2-3 years of following up your healthy routine - which will definitely give healthy longer life! But again, it varies person to person depending on their present level of disease. And not all Natural Treatment can be healthy, as everything we try does go through our body, this is why we need a reliable doctor in this field. We are still considering this option but after taking opinion of few more doctors.

In short, There is always a hope, but best thing you can do yourself is stop doing what's harming your body, eat healthy, stay positive.

The British Liver Trust does not recommend the use of homeopathic or herbal remedies for those with any liver problems as these have to be processed by the liver and could possibly damage it further.

More research needs to be done on the use and safety of such remedies and therapies.

If you have concerns about any prescribed medication or are considering using complementary or alternative remedies &/or therapies always discuss this with your doctor.

Always consult with a medical proffessional before taking anything not perscribed by them you could be badly harmed some things look innocent and they are not . And scammers want to make money and dont care what happens to you .

I am confused here - there are warnings on info sheet on Prednisalone and Aza about liver and yet doctors prescribe them for liver conditions. Has anybody tried Alpha Lipoic Acid? It was used by Dr. Berkson to treat end case liver conditions and he got amazing results?

That’s the point, Amy: there are warnings because there’s transparency. A side effect that affects even one in a million people has to be written on the leaflet.

The problem with a lot of these alternative approaches is an absence of that level of transparency. And don’t you believe for a second that “natural” stuff hasn’t got side effects. Side effects is not a function of natural or not: it’s natural stuff that gives people allergies and intolerance, for instance.

Hi Amy121,

One of my husband's doctors recommended alpha lipoic acid, but it was to help with tingling in his hands and feet - not actual liver damage.

Hubby not sure if it helps, but still takes it.

You should not take anything without checking with your own doctors first, since everyone is different and your doctor would have a better idea of what might help vs hurt you.

Best wishes,

Mary

Great post - I too am curious. YouTube comes up with various people who say they have cured it but ???????

Hi Liversliver,

I think there are many of us who are curious about the same thing.

The problem tends to be that, as with any "medicine" it works differently with different people.

I remember looking into German Commission E for my mother who had heart and circulation issues and diabetes and many of the herbal/alternative treatments would be listed as good for one thing but very bad for one of her other issues.

Let us know how your search goes and don't forget to run things by your own doctor before taking something based on what you might hear.

Best wishes,

Mary
