Severe constipation

lauriefontaine67 profile image

I am new here but read some similar conserns about being plugged up. I have not gone in 10 days and have tried everything. I even got a presription from my doctor and that hasn't worked. I have done enemas and smooth move tea with no relief.

I am not looking forward to going in and having them help me manually. Especially since I've known my Doctor for 20 years and she is a friend. I am so embarrest but am out of options. Anyone out there have similar complaints?

Ask your doctor to prescribe the colonoscopy-prep drink Clenpiq. It’s drastic, but it will work. Good luck!

Before I had my colonoscopy I had to go to a pharmacy & get a kit containing a GlycoPrep-C 70g sachet and two PicoPrep 15.5g sachets which are taken to ensure that the bowel is empty before a colonoscopy. I showed the pharmacists the printed sheet the gastroenterologist gave me & she gave the stuff without needing a prescription. I followed the instructions & after waiting about an hour I started going to the toilet repeatedly.

"Glycoprep-C is used for bowel cleansing in conjunction with intravenous pyelograms (IVP), abdominal X-ray examinations, surgery and colonoscopy."

"PicoPrep is used to remove the bowel contents and cleanse it prior to the doctor’s examination or surgery. It enables your doctor to see inside easily. It is sometimes used to clear the colon before a special x-ray of the kidneys. It does this by acting in the intestine and colon causing a watery stool or bowel motion which removes the bowel contents. This may be a little uncomfortable but is necessary for the examination."

don't be embarrassed about the poo. with liver ailments your body needs to discharge all the toxins the liver has filtered out

and i assume you have a goodish diet, are mobil and move about a fair bit.

I always equated a bowel movement to a form of dialysis for the liver

love your liver, love the poo and love your loo.

Well, I went to the doctors and they gave me an exray. She said I needed something stronger so I got Gavilyte-C which tasted like salty lemonade. I had to drink a gallon of it in 2 hours!

I don't know if it got the job done because it was all runny. Not my idea of a good poop. Today I will go get an upper colon cleanse.

Thanks for your response!

When I had trouble pre transplant with constipation and Lactulose wasn't moving things and I was having low gut pain through wanting to go. I used some glycerine suppositories (from Boots chemist) and they really helped. It sometimes took a few times. After inserting one I would lay down on the bed and try to keep from going to the loo a long as poss (They can give you the urge to go straight away but that will not be as productive as trying to wait). Each time, even if it only moved a little it was normally enough to stop the low gut pain. Eventually over a couple of days it usually sorted me out. Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids because I think that it was dehydration that was the main culprit of my bowel problems at that time. Hope that you're soon sorted, I know how miserable it can be! Best wishes. Alf

Thanks Alf....I have a problem with enemas and suppositories cause I just can't seem to reach to get them in properly . The mini supp are easier but quite expensive. I am looking forward to going in for a upper colonic cleanse tomorrow. It will be a long nite for me once again. This will cost me $90.00 but well worth it if it will help. Wish me luck!

I wish you the best of luck and I hope that it relieves the situation. It's a miserable thing to suffer from. Remember always to drink plenty of fluids . I found that having a good size bowl of bran flakes every morning followed by breakfast orange drink or a mug of tea too kept me on the right track. Also remember to always have fluids with meals. Fingers crossed for you. Alf

Hi

How did you go on with your prep?

When I had my last colonoscopy I had movi prep which didn't work properly!! When I saw consultant in February he said I didn't need another one yet. Mind you he is quite blasé!! Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Well, I drank the gallon of salty lemonade (not easy) and had to go all night, but just a couple of clumps mixed with liquid. then I woke up at 5:00am and drank the rest of the gallon and from there on out it was just liquid every 15 min. I am not relieved at this point so will go to my appt tomorrow for the colonic cleanse.

Sorry if I am repeating myself on this blog!

I haven't slept in 2 days.

Hi

Hope everything goes well. It's electrodes that they are injecting into me. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Oh my, my appointment isn't until tomorrow! One more day of agony. I thought it was today and was very excited to get it over with....only to find out that I had it in my calendar for Thurs! Oh well. If I can go 2 weeks without going I can wait another day? Thanks for checking in and I will give a full report tomorrow :)

I had my colonic done last night. I am even more depressed about the whole situation. after taking all those remedies and hoping this would be the last ...it didn't work. She said she eliminated a lot of gases no poo. Five feet of colon. She sent me home with hopes of relief by using some castor oil and a heating pad to make me comfortable till my next appt. on Mon. Said she was going to come in on her day off to help me on Sunday. Also told me to stay on a liquid diet until then.

Hi. Sorry to hear that you are still in discomfort. If this situation doesn't alter very soon I think that you would be better off going to the hospital and getting things properly sorted. They would be able to find out if there is a physical problem causing this. They wouldn't send you back home to suffer as you are at the moment. Hope that you are soon sorted. Alf

I went to emergency last night and they gave me a cat-scan then a super enema. No big results but by looks of the cat-scat I have a lot of poop inside me that just won't come out! Worse comes to worst they will give me a colonoscopy in a few days if nothing works. I think I will go back to my colonic lady and try once more and $100.00 more :(.

It was miserable last nite, didn't come home till 6;00 AM. a very long nite. I was at the ER for 10 hours with the long wait.

Well. I got home and took one more T of castor oil and drank some Gatorade with electrolytes . They said to not drink water because my lab tests said I was low in sodium. Thank goodness St Patricks Day is soon, and corned beef and cabbage has a lot of salt in it and that's what I need. Some warm salty soup. Thanks everyone for listening to me sob.

Hi there. Sorry that you aren't sorted yet but at least you have a clearer picture of the problem. Hopefully the earth will move with the threat of a colonoscopy and if not the hospital will step in and deal with it. hopefully better news soon. Alf

I went for my second upper colon cleanse today and that help just a little and I pooped out green diarreah when I got home. have you ever heard of this?

alfredthegreat profile image
alfredthegreat

Glad you've had a little relief .One reason could be Sometimes when the contents of the bowel flow through the intestines fast it can be seen as a green colour because the bile (original colour green) hasn't had the time to change colour as it passes through your system. It normally changes as it goes through from green to yellow and then to brown. The green colour may be the result from your upper colon cleanse.

lauriefontaine67 profile image
lauriefontaine67

Thats it! Bile...of course. My doctor said it's probably from laxatives I take but there's nothing green that I take except for 2 advils a day for headaches. thanks so much :)

I think probiotics will help. Try eating yogurts. These are basically rich in friendly bacteria which will support your digestive system.

Aside from that, I can recommend Flourish Probiotics by Eu Natural. amazon.com/Flourish-Probiot...

This is a natural supplement which has really high reviews and recommended for digestive, gut and urinary problems. It is a combination of multiple friendly bacteria, such as Acidophilus, Plantarum, Rhamnosus, Reuteri strain which provide relief from constipation. I think this is worth checking out and perhaps your best option. I hope I have been helpful
