I was diagnosed as having Cirrhosis of the liver in 2016. Last year I was told that I had 'Nodules' on my liver, which were possibly a sign that my liver was trying to heal itself (I had drastically cut my alcohol intake). A few weeks ago I had an ultrasound scan and was told that I should have a biopsy done which would test for liver cancer but at the same time they would use a laser to 'Zap' the nodules.
Does anyone have any comments regarding this?
Thanks,
ron

Hi, sorry I can't help properly with your question but I have nodules on my pancreas & they have taken measurements after a MRI. The multidisciplinary team all looked at the results & decided to monitor them. Therefore yours must be larger to warrant a biopsy. Sorry I can't be any more of a help xx
Are you under a specialist liver unit RonShirt ? The reason I ask is because it is highly unusual to biopsy a suspected liver cancer due to the risk of 'seeding the cancer' - diagnosis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is largely done via Alpha-Fetoprotein blood test, CT Scan and/or MRI scan.
I'd certainly be asking what it is they think they've seen that needs zapping.
My hubby has known cirrhosis and has a 6 monthly ultrasound scan to look for lumps and bumps occurring in his liver together with an AFP blood test. At his last u/s something was seen in the right lobe of his liver (we already know he has hemangioma's there plus cysts in his left lobe). Follow up is an MRI scan to check what it is they've found. He has previously had two liver biopsies (2012 & 2014) but these were to look at his liver on a cellular level and work out the diagnosis of why he had cirrhosis (auto-immune in his case) and what degree of damage there was.
Hope you get some answers at your consultation, make a note of all the questions you want to ask and take a pad and paper with you as it is easy to go brain scrambled once in your appointment. Ask your questions and take notes of answers.
One thing I do is audio record my appointment, so I can listen to them again just to be sure I dont miss anything. I just use my phone to audio record especially when I am by myself
