Sh1t birthday...

It is my birthday today, ripe old age of 41.

Been the worst birthday ever and probably up there as the worst day of the year.

All these health concerns and hospital visits have really got the better of me. Normally I would have taken the family out for a meal to celebrate but didn’t fancy it today as I would probably want a beer but have avoided alcohol for months and didn’t want to risk it.

So instead they had a takeaway and I had a bagel.

Didn’t even open my cards or presents as it felt like too much effort and I had absolutely zero motivation.

I am desperate to find the cause of my RUQ pain and spent most of the day exploring chronic pancreatitis websites wondering whether that could be the root cause. Sounds like it could be.

Feeling really down and thinking how my lot would probably be better off without me and my constant worries. Can’t see an end to all this if I’m honest.

In parallel to my normal symptoms I have been feeling super nauseous for a few days and a pain in my left shoulder blade seems to have returned with a vengeance.

Really hope tomorrow is better :-(

I'm sorry that you're feeling so low, it was our wedding anniversary today and although I had been looking forward to a lovely day out it was spoiled by my really painful legs and fatigue. I have had pancreatitis caused by an infected gallbladder and the pain was excruciating. I had to lie on my left side and couldn't move or breathe deaply as it made the pain worse. I had to be admitted to a surgical ward and morphine was the only thing that helped with the pain. Take care.Deb

Hi Debs

What a shame 🙁

You really are going through the mill...was the bit about pancreas from some time but you are still having the repercussions? Not being able to lie on side = now or then?

Hope bit better tomorrow then you could, perhaps, have a lovely day.

Miles

Sorry I wasn't clear about the timescale. It was in 2009 and I've never had any repercussions since. I meant to tell farranccc that as far as I'm aware pancreatitis is an extremely painful condition which normally means a hospital stay as it affects your breathing and blood sugars. It's not something you feel pain from everyday. It's an acute rather than a chronic disease. I'm not sure if I'm making any sense 😳

Hi Debs

Hmm you’ve lost me (not difficult at the moment 😑)

Pancre was a few years ago but no repercussions since. But yesterday was your anni (gj!) and you had painful legs and tiredness. So what is causing that 😮 if not pancre?

I have cirrhosis, hypothyroid,OA and fibromyalgia, diabetes and hiatus hernia. I think that's all 😖 I am really struggling with the fibromyalgia which causes muscle pain and fatigue but with the cirrhosis and other rubbish thrown in it makes for a painful exhausting life. We don't yet know the cause of my cirrhosis as I am virtually tea total which is why I'm going through so many tests. I'm sorry about the rambling but I'm really tired but as usual I can't sleep. I was the same on my 50th birthday in June. I didn’t want to get out of bed even. It’s difficult to talk about depression but depression does exist.

Did you open your presents yet?

Cheers,

Brett

Hiit was mine on the 16th September, u had a rotten day, I felt terrible. Everyone tried so hard to cheer me up which I did appreciate and it must be very hard for them too. I know how lucky I am. You all take care .love and hugs to you all and your families. Xxxx

Hi. How long has this been going on. Are you on medication- i suppose you are.

Sometimes, just sometimes, its worth looking at “potential” side effects.

Good luck

🙁

Thanks you guys! Really appreciate your messages. I had an early night and feel a little better so far today.

Brett, not yet but will get round to it this morning! That said I can probably guess what they all are!

Twosmiles, I am not on medication for anything but sometimes wonder if I should be for something!

Hi

Happy un-birthday, or birthday MkIl

🍺🍺

A cyber beer for you (doctors allow this kind 🙄)

Glad to hear you feel better today. Don't fret about the age - you're only 1

Well life begins at 40 and all that.

Now the boring bit

It sounds to me as though you need to speak to a doctor because of depression.

Pain causes depression and it isn't a static thing. If you don't know how to discuss it then show them your post. Some anti depressants will also help reduce the pain a bit too.

Take care

Aw. Hope you managed to have a better day. Not good feeling rubbish especially on your birthday. Well done Brett for remembering the present and sending some cyber 🎂.

Rita you are right about the pain and depression. Sometimes it all gets too much. Counselling and antidepressants all the way for me. Take care

Farranccc, I really feel for you, having had the worst pain imaginable a few years ago. The thing is, if you have had as many medical tests and procedures as humanly possible, can you try to be a little more patient? Although it took a couple of years, I was lucky enough to recover and my life since then has been very happy and productive. I'm not belittling how you are feeling but there may be some very good things out there for you right around the next corner.

Hi @Tinypixie - patience is not a strong point of mine and this seems to have been going on forever - but I do get your point.

In one respect I actually wonder whether this is all in my head given the amount of clear tests I have had. But in another I am not sure that is possible given the strength of the pain?

I do know one thing though and that is that this has all come as a stark warning. My alcohol intake was slowly increasing and I probably was becoming dependent. I’ve not had a drop for about 4 months now and apart from the odd occasion don’t really miss it much. I never thought I would say those words.

Not really sure where I go from here though. I have a musculoskeletal ultrasound tomorrow but don’t have much hope for it finding anything and then referral to a pain specialist.

The LAST thing I want (after giving my liver a break) is to have to begin taking a load of pills.

Thanks again for everyone cheering me up - feel a lot better today than on Friday xx

Pancreas pain is usually right behind the belly button and a bit to the left. I believe that gallbladder pain is to the right. What a bummer to have this on your birthday. I can relate. Christmas was awful for me this year. Have you been diagnosed with pancreatitis? Try looking up gallbladder disease. I'll bet you'll find more there that suits your symptoms. It's also easier to control and if need be they can remove it. Good luck to you and a late Happy Birthday to you.
