Regarding varices: Worried about... - British Liver Trust
Regarding varices
Hubby had 42 varices banded resulted in his becoming eradicated. Never on a beta blocker, his consultant decided to go the endoscopy and banding route - hubby had to persevere through this despite being terrified and not having the best of times with endoscopy but it was effective.

Thanks for reply,I am worried that beta blockers not effective but spent four days im hospitals after banding a few.dont know if I should try again.
My hubby had already had a massive bleed from varices and his liver consultant said beta blockers ineffective in someone who had already bled. Banding was certainly effective in getting rid of the varices if very unpleasant to go through.

Katie you had my heart miss a beat then...i first read it as “in him becoming”..yoiks.
Please dont mention endoscopy its the only test I HAVE to have a sedative for!
Am on carvediliol 12.5mg after being taken off propranalol and have been for last year or so. Have jus recently had an endoscopy with 2 varices banded after consultant telling me would not require endoscopy or banding...go figure?!!! Sorry cant be of help but thought you should know.
Hi Carol
I was on carvedilol for to reduce my high blood pressure. Taken off post t/p and now bp up at 195/75
Sorry thats not much help to you. I read somewhere its also used for heart concerns - but i couldnt tell from what was written as to whether it was a research activity or a real world problem.
I had varices and the banding and beta blockers did not work. As a result, I underwent TIPSS. I was bleeding once a month on average since diagnosed and about 40 bands performed.
