Hi, apologies for a flurry of recent posts but I am beginning to worry a lot.
I have had pain around the upper right quadrant for several years - it generally comes and goes but for several months it has been worse, so much so that I quit drinking and have had several liver tests and an ultrasound which were all clear. The pain
1) is intermittent throughout the day, sometimes I can feel it a lot and others not at all
2) I feel it to the right of my sternum as a deep dull pain and under the edge of my rib and sometimes down to my side
3) Alcohol, coffee and some food (spicy stuff) seems to make it worse but that is also not consistent
4) Pressing and poking doesn’t seem to make the pain any worse
Does this sound like liver to you? Has anyone had a similar pain as that described?
Many thanks

I had a transient dull ache much like you describe for many years while drinking. My liver enzymes (ALT/AST) were always normal, so I didn't sweat it too much.
I developed a very fatty liver in my early 50s; so big I couldn't sleep on my right side and I was getting back pain from where my liver pushed out on my ribs in front, torquing my spine in back.
When I finally quit drinking, my "liver ache" became much worse & felt like a charcoal fire smoldering in my gut. This really scared the heck out of me, as I felt this certainly must mean I was into advanced disease.
It took the better part of 3 months before I started feeling better, & ASH Fibrosure several years later showed no fibrosis (I was actually shocked when I got the result).
Don't know why I got the big flare in symptoms during my recovery, but it was very real. I did recover though, & apparently recovered completely. Hope you're feeling better soon!
I've been dealing with this for the past year. Very similar situation. Started getting "liver pain" two Junes ago after enjoying a fair share of beer for 20 years. Normal blood work and ultrasound. GP and gastroenterologist both said there was nothing wrong with me. This was September of 2017, so I'm going in for an update on both next month. I'm much more careful about drinking and eating, and I try to fit in the exercise. I could definitely be more disciplined on all fronts, but it doesn't seem like I'm giving my liver any real reason to complain anymore, and yet it does. Good luck to you.
