Terrified it’s too late...

I am currently experiencing intermittent upper right quadrant abdomen pain and general nausea. I have been a moderate to heavy drinker of wine for many years. Have been to gp but first appointment I could get for bloods is next week. So I paid for a private ultrasound which showed normal size, shape and echotexture of my liver..... despite this i’m still having a massive anxiety attack. I’ve obviously stopped drinking. Can anyone please give even a little reassurance??!

Take a deep breath and breathe. It is reassuring that your ultrasound hasn’t shown up anything to be overly worried about. The big thing is to quit drinking and eat healthily. Anything we can do to help our livers will not do you any harm. Things liver really doesn’t like are alcohol and salt. Avoiding these will only help. Now enjoy the rest of your day.

Thank you for replying Ray - it’s the nausea and accompanying weakness that’s the problem - i’m not sure if it’s due to a dicey liver or my anxiety. Trying to reassure myself that if it was in a terrible state it would have shown up something on the US!

Hi

If it helps you don’t normally get pain from your liver it has very few nerves around it and scans are very good, GP is good move and life style change will help . Anxiety is horrible and is an illness in itself hopefully you get the reassurance you need and relax

Hi

I never experienced any pain around the liver. It’s great that the ultrasound was so good. Try not to worry. Giving up drink after regular heavy use can also leave you feeling a bit anxious before your brain gets used to you not drinking. Please don’t start again though, it’ll settle down.

So bloods have come back normal too which is a huge relief😅......However there’s still something not right gastric wise (taking Prilosec to ease) so booked in to get that looked at next week. Obvs still staying well clear of the booze and in a way grateful of the wake up call. Thank you for your kind words💐
