GI banding

Does anyone get a really REALLY bad pain like heartburn after a GI banding or am I just being a drama queen?

Yes my husband does. ...lasts around 7 to 10 days.... He's had it done 3 times. .only about 4 varices banded.

Quite normal for upto a week or so, my hubby got it every time he was banded. Food and drink passing the banding site would make him wince in agony. Worst my hubby had it for was about 8 - 10 days.

Are you also on a proton pump inhibitor (like Omeprazole) to protect your stomach and oesophagus from excess stomach acid.

Having said that if it seems to be going on too long get checked out - sometimes the air they inflate you with doesn't release properly (burping or releasing at the other end shall we say politely) then it can cause issues.

If you are experiencing severe pain after banding, then we would suggest to get it medically assessed as soon as possible.

After banding I couldn’t eat or drink for several hours and had some difficulty doing so for a day or two. Tiny sips and nibbles of soft foods got me through. I’ve had several endoscopes, each time with difficulty as my gag reflex is overactive. After a couple of procedures with no need for banding I’ve had 9 months without. I hope it stays that way as it is torture for me. Most people I know have no problem with having it done.

Nil by mouth unfortunately! Gave me morphine wooooo hoooolol. Probably 0.000001% morphine though lol. Just waiting on bloods and X-ray now. Still in man pain though

I got sent homo with a script for endone. They spoke to the surgeon and he said it’s just a side effect. Still, 3 hours door to door on a Friday night isn’t bad.

And to add more drama to the story, I vomited today. No blood thankfully. Haven’t vomited for ages.
