The UK is changing organ donation in 2020

You will need to opt out if you don’t want to be an organ donor otherwise you will automatically be a donor. They say this will save an extra 700 lives a year.

There will be some opt out cases. Like under 18 etc.

Thanks for posting this up Brett, Last March I asked a question about this opt-out scheme during a live Facebook question and answer debate held by the then Jeremy Hunt. It's about time sweetheart

There was a lovely story in our local paper about a eighteen year old student who had died ( undiagnosed type 1 diabetes ) who was a campaigner of organ donation.

His organs saved five lives.

I cried,such a young man to be so thoughtful.

Hi all

Here in France it’s the norm. You have to opt out. It hasn’t completely solved the problem but has made it much easier to get a donor. I was a super urgent tx patient and my family were told to ‘say goodbye’. A few hours later a donor became available. If I were in the U.K. I’m not sure I would have been as lucky.

It gives hope to everyone come 2020!

Quite a few cant donate like most on long term pills, people who have terminal illnesses like mine. Its a shame we cant even donate the bits that aren't screwed as they are screwed by pills

It is a positive step forward and will get people talking which is the key as next of kin consent will still be required, your decision is in there hands.

I heard this yesterday. It is such a positive step forward and will get people talking. So many people that I talk say “yes we want to donate but will sort it out tomorrow as busy right now”. Then they forgot and tomorrow never comes. So the opt out system is definitely the way forward

They'll never do this in the states. Soon there'll be many people in need. None of our food is real, it's hard to find food that isn't tampered with, so soon there will be many sick people. Our cosmetics and body products are also full of ingredients banned in Europe. In the name of religion and freedom we won't be forced in. The only way it will change is when the work force becomes too sick to work.

As far as I heard on the news. This is already in action. Could I be right there ?

Its defimately a very progressive idea. Not a bad one for the fact that anyone living would be greatful for a new liver so why not give ours to someone when we die? Just seems logical to me. I can see certain countries denying the idea like the US as it would go against the persons rights to take it without consent. I can also see more religious driven countries denying it as well.
