Hi there, citizens advice are the people to speak to about benefits. They should be able to run a benefits check and help you with PIP. Just give them a ring and you should be able to arrange an appointment.

If you're on a transplant list check to see if your hospital have a social worker that works with the transplant team. The one we met at Edinburgh is an angel.

If you're very unwell and expected to live less than 6 months speak to your doctor, there's a form they can sign that means your PIP (and ESA - I think) will be fast tracked with no need for the usual assessment.

Your local council could have a welfare rights department who can help make sure you claim anything you are entitled too.Have a look on their website .

Hi,

Divg and baygirl has given some very good advice above, we would also add there is information on benefits in our 'Living with Liver disease publication, here is the link;

Hi I had a wonderful man from age concern who helped me complete my form although I wasn’t over 65 also an appointment at citizens advice would prove very helpful if u tell them what u want help with as they have different people for different problems. Good luck and don’t delay as you will miss out xx

Citizens advice bureau or the Turn to us charity should help. In some areas charities to help with form filling and advocacy will help. If you live in a housing association property they have to have a welfare team to help people get benefits and through appeals process. A lot of the time they will say no initiallly but be prepared to fight as many win at appeal. Do not do anything by yourself as the experts know what wording works. I won an appeal and by hell it makes you feel on top of the world at a time when you would much rather be fit and work. The system is not based around certain conditions getting it and others not. It is about what you can and cannot do in relation to certain activities. Points are awarded and more points = more benefit at the end of the day.

Good luck
