Previous posters have had to make sure insurance covers it plus normally have to have a very recent endoscopy to get all clear for varices - potential risk of bleeding from varices with plane cabin pressure (had one poster a few years ago whose plane had to make emergency landing and he was rushed to hospital).

Get the all clear from docs.

Thanks Katie,

I’ll have to check that out. I was also thinking about the water tablets and The lactulose during the flight. We are thinking about going to the UK next year.

Cheers,

Brett

Hi Brett. Might it be worth considering taking several shorter flights on route with stop overs? May well cost more but be kinder on your body. X

That’s true Laura. Let’s see if our lottery numbers come up first lol. Although some Chinese airlines offer dirt cheap flights from Sydney to London via China these days.

If my lottery numbers come up Brett, I'll pay for your flights !!

A stopover in China could be interesting, but the salt in the food could be a killer. I took a short trip at the beginning of June and it almost finished me off. I've never done well on airplanes, even before diagnosis. At the very least, try these methods: 1. Ask for no-salt/no red meat meals; but don't trust the airline to have it, so take your own NO-SALT snacks (nuts and dried fruit are good). 2. Request wheelchair assistance for stopovers and transfers. 3. wear compression socks if they work for you (I may be the only person in the world for whom they do NOT work); you need to figure this out in advance; start with 8-15 strength and work up to 15-20. 4. take the diuretics and wear adult diapers. 5. get up and walk around every 30-60 minutes; raise your feet above your head when seated (if possible; need a bulkhead seat for this). 6. eat high-fiber food, like dried fruit, and save the lactulose to take immediately upon checking into your lodging; lie down with your feet above your head and give it an hour or so. 7. Throughout the trip drink a lot of water; drink LOTS of water; drink it until you can't drink anymore.

Expect to tire easily. Take it easy until you find your limit. HAVE FUN!!!

Thanks for that. Gosh! Traveling used to be so easy lol. I do book disabled access now. It’s great!! Straight through passport control and security. Get treated like a queen. It’s a lot to think about now pre travel.

Cheers
