I was curious to see what people take for supplements to help the liver , or herbal or spices. My doc said not to take any herbal .
I do use turmeric when cooking along with other spices.

Spices in cooking is fine but taking as supplements is a no no 😊
Marydel63,
Personally I wouldn't take anything that wasn't safe.
The only way to know if anything is safe is when it is properly regulated. That doesn't include testing by the company producing the supplement or a trade body with vested interests. Some supplements claim to have been thoroughly tested but have been found to have been tested on an extremely small sample of the population.
Unregulated, you cannot guarantee the purity or even if it is actually what it claims to be, it could be absolutely anything. Obviously, something like turmeric and other spices are in foods where we are not even aware of its presence. The likelihood of harm is remote.
However, in my opinion supplements can be very dangerous, especially for someone with liver problems.
I know someone who was seriously harmed by a 'natural' well known supplement which is freely available in a well known high street shop.
The British Liver Trust have specific advice for anyone considering using 'complimentary / alternative medicines'

Isn't it funny how we trust the medical profession to prescribe us all sorts of chemical substances, yet are afraid to take what Mother Nature has provided? Just a thought... 🤔🤓😉
I've been taking Milk Thistle and Artichoke Hearts (in capsule form). These seem to be old style herbal remedies for a sick liver. I've no idea if they help or not, but one has to try. Also I saw someone on here the other day who said they were taking 'Elite Liver Tonic' which I bought from Amazon. I can't find the post now though ..
