No advice from Dr : Was diagnosed with... - British Liver Trust
No advice from Dr
As long as you are sensible with alcohol and have a good diet and exercise then there is nothing more he could advise apart from cut alcohol out completely a whole lot of people are walking around now with fatty livers and it's all down to bad lifestyle we all know what's good and bad for us
If all bloods are fine with a diagnosis of fatty liver I would suggest that's a good sign as it indicates no ongoing inflammation in the liver. What you need to do now is stop worrying but learn to look after your liver.
Some guidance on fatty liver disease (non-alcohol related fatty liver) can be found on the main British Liver Trust website at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...
There is also guidance on the site about looking after your liver which might help with your future liver health. britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...
There is nothing further a doctor can do for you at this stage, no magic pills or potions but you probably can do things to help yourself.
All the best,
Katie
Thanks guys it's just scary 😐
Thanks for the advice I do go to the gym,And eat healthy most of the time prob have over done it on the alcahol tbh only drink at weekends but am abstaining currently ! I also had cholestasis with both of my pregnancies don't know if that would effect my liver now ?
If you’re a bit over weight then eat a healthy diet and exercise daily (an apple shape body, ie your storing fat around your middle, your more likely to have fatty liver) the others are right no to worry if you look after liver. Good luck
I was diagnosed with Nash 16 years ago. Drs seem to think you have no right to know your actual test results and saying they’re fine like that is no longer satisfactory for me Be proactive. Ask for specific results and you compare them with the normal ranges you can find on google. Anything higher than the normal ranges for LFTs needs more clarification though it might not necessarly be critical. These high and mighty GPs need to be more respectful of their patients’ need to know.
Splodge60 I agree.... and I can't tell you how many people I know and have met in USA that never get their tests results and most never hear even that they are fine or not. I actually have had to teach my brother and brother in law to not count on the dr office to follow up with you after tests, because they do not here. When my Dad got dx for diabetes, the new dr got his records and told my Dad it had been in his records for over ten years and no one told him! Needless to say he has had a much worse case because of so many years untreated. In USA its not just GPs that do not give you your results. It's like 97% of all docs here do not bother to follow back up with you. I tell them all on every single visit, I want copies of all my tests mailed to me if they are not ready when I am there. Some also will email them. And even though I do tell them every visit; some of them I still have to call to get them.
Sianjay123 I hope you called them and got copies of all your bloodwork. Or that they are progressive enough that they post results. Often times the staff will tell you everything is fine, because the doctor didn't red flag your labs for more testing or to call you back. In the past year, I have been told everything is fine, and I ask them to send them to me so I can share with my other drs. When I get my test results, in 6 different incidents this year alone, I see problems that I was not informed about. So please do not settle for the everything is fine statement. Get a copy of the actual lab results.
My liver function tests are all within normal ranges and other than a few points over on either ast or alk occasionally, it looks like my liver is fine. However, that is not all the doctor tested. There are other indicators of liver problems that have shown up like high bilirubin, low platelets, low protein and or low albumin. Any of these can also indicate a problem. I have not drank in years so was shocked to find out I have so much fibrosis it borderlines cirrhosis, and fatty liver.
Not one dr had mentioned low protein and I saw it but didn't know what it meant and looked it up, being low on protein can cause a variety of issues as every cell in your body requires protein. It is imperative that I improve that. I now try to eat more protein and get a variety of amino acids to help with increasing that level. You have to be pro-active for yourself. I see my Dad in a nursing home because he had diabetes for over ten years and not one dr ever thought to tell him! That's the reality of the med system in USA! Hopefully, it is better in your country.
