LFT abnormal and Ultrasound ordered.

Hello, I am new here and have been reading avidly people's posts and experiences. Firstly, I am new here and would like to give you a brief (I hope) introduction to myself. I am a 46 year old female who has had alcohol issues over 30 years. 10 years ago I detoxed and was sober for 5 years then stupidly, because of a family crisis, I began to drink again. Over the past 6 years up until 3 weeks ago my drinking had become out of hand. I went back and forth to doctors and a referral to a Recovery place which offered little to no help apart from saying to cut down on my drink, to taper off. This for me was not an option as I was highly dependant and had to get the first 2 or 3 drinks down me quickly to feel 'normal'. 3 weeks ago I gave up alcohol cold turkey which I know is incredibly dangerous considering how much I was drinking. I went to the doctors after seizuring at work and they reluctantly gave me Diazepam to help with the withdrawals. After a week thankfully the wds abated however I do suffer from anxiety and depression. The doctor meanwhile ordered blood tests for me and surprisingly quickly they came back. The doctor told me she wished for me to have ultrasound on my liver as the levels were high (at this point I have no copy or indication as to GGT etc which I will be getting on Monday). I do have pain under ribs on right hand side and slightly extended stomach. GP has basically scared me to death talking about scarring and cirrhosis. I am pretty clued up re LFT results and now awaiting what the levels are and dreading the ultrasound.

Sorry for going on a bit but this site has so many wonderful people and just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully let the story begin both with hope and anxiety.

Love to you all whatever your situation may be x

This is great news that you are not drinking any more alcohol and things can only get better for your liver and give it a chance to recover.Iv heard so many storys of people getting much better when they stop drinking. There is also a part on healthunlocked for anxiety and depression which may be good for you to join as before we take that drink the problem always starts in our mind so its good to try and keep well and talk to others. There is also healthy eating and lots of great ideas for good recipes that keep our bodies well and after drinking for long periods of time or extended heavy drinking we need to look after our diet and eat lots of good fruit and veggies. Are you getting support from anywhere to stay of the alcohol like AA or somewhere else as many people need the support of others to stay stopped. i will add a link at the end of this post so that you can look through it and see if there is anywhere you might want to contact for help as its very difficult on your own. once you stop drinking there will be a big empty gap and its good to fill it up with things that are going to help you. i just want to welcome you to the forum and wish you well. love grace xoxoxo nhs.uk/Livewell/alcohol/Pag...

Hi Grace, thank you so much for your reply. As for diet, I am highly conscious and am eating lots of fruits, veggies and fibre as I also have IBS. I have a referral to the city's Recovery program in next couple of weeks. AA is not for me as too religious (being an atheist). Really the catalyst was awakening myself to how much I was poisoning myself and to go cold turkey was the only way I could get primary help. GP says will not address my anxiety/depression until after US and next blood test. I have 2 beautiful baby grandsons and have absolutely no desire to drink again (hand on heart) just worried now regarding the upcoming US. Also to add am taking B supplements and Milk Thistle which worked wonders the last time I detoxed and also taking plenty of fluids. I hope so very much that I have not done myself any lasting damage, this site is an inspiration and will direct people here who have many different issues.

Love and laughs and peace xx
