Eyes: Does anyone here who has liver... - British Liver Trust

Hi. Not sure if this helps but my partner noticed an improvement in his eyesight after transplant .
That’s great, my husband is waiting for a referral to the London Free . Thank you
It may have been coincidence, but I needed glasses for the first time about a month before transplant.
My husband had reading glasses, when he had his eyes tested six months ago, his reading was the same but distance was needed, he is now complaining last couple of weeks that he has trouble seeing the television ,
I needed reading glasses about a year before transplant
I had terrible night vision, turned out that my liver wasn’t absorbing enough vit A, simple supplement twice a day solved that particular problem.
hi identity...hope you are doing well with your eyes?
soon as I read this post i thought of you.
it just shows... how your story might help someone else... best wishes cazer. p. s i had a transplant in may this year... struggling with tummy issues but alive and kicking!!!! best wishes cazer. x
They started to go again at night but they doubled my vit A supplements and touch wood all good again.
Glad to hear your time came and all is doing relatively well for you. Pre and post transplant are never gonna be without a few bumps in the road, we just have to endure and carry on.
All the best Cazer.
I have discovered I have early stage cataract in one eye a year after being diagnosed with Nash w severe fibrosis. I'm only 54. Not sure if related or coincidental.
Hi cookimonster, yes I've been told the same..am taking driving lessons and went back to the opticians after 6months as I felt my vision could be sharper.to which they agreed with me and gave me a new prescription,I was alarmed when the photos came back, one eye was a dark grey, the other was normal.the dark grey being the beginning of cataracts...within 5yrs I'm told..and I'm 59..not gonna get much driving in if I pass my test now.but hey ho...stock up on the vitamin a that's a good tip..Will try..........kind regards.
hi someone else posted on here a while ago and was having a lot of trouble with his eyesight and was under various specialist... as they could not find out the problem!!!
i wondered whether it could have been a vitamin a deficiency... as with most liver disease we do not absorb this vitamin very well. eventually this was diagnosed with this problem... but it took a long time to get discovered... and so simple to treat....
see if you can get it checked.. its got to be worth a try.
i was recently on steroids.. which gave me temporary diabetes... this messed up my vision due to the fluid variation in the eyes altering the focus.... so that's another one to get checked.
does it vary day to day or is it a gradual worsening?
best wishes cazer
also... not being rude... how old is person? sometimes 40/50s...eyesight naturally changes... and it can be quite quick... so could just be a coincidence. cazer
My husband's eyesight went from needing reading glasses to almost blind in less than a year. Luckily for us he was sent to see a neurologist for something unrelated and he discovered cataracts. He is waiting for op now. I did think it could be his liver condition as it all came about at the same time, but wasn't really sure until reading your post.
Could be a side effect of medicines. If you are taking prednisone, it can cause cataracts and blurred vision.
Thanks for everyone's replies , going to look in to vitamin A
