Hi Trevy, well I can't diagnose if it's cirrhosis as that would be a discussion with your gp; but all those readings have baffled me 🤔 .I wouldn't even know mine after 9 yrs lol.

Trevy,

Having to deal with liver disease is never going to be easy.

The complicated nature of the condition often makes it hard to make sense of it all. That's why we have our GPs, consultants and specialist nurses. When we need reassurance about how to live with our illness, we come here. All of us have experience of, or have cared for somebody with the whole range of liver problems.

Many people on here, come with really quite comprehensive lists of scan, blood and other diagnostic tests. We are not here to answer those question. We might get it wrong, misunderstand or mislead those needing advice.

Even if we did know the answers, its not appropriate to give an opinion here. The British Liver Trust, who host and moderate this site have made it clear that we should steer clear of attempting to interpret any results, blood or otherwise.

I know some people disagree with this, but this is how it has to be on here.

Sorry if that's not really much help.

In the meantime, take good care of yourself and know you will always find support here.

Jim

Hi Jim, thank you for the response. I totally understand your view and the principle - as it is correct. No one individual would be able to give a prognosis on my scan results and that is not really what I am after.

I don't know much other than what I am reading up on - all of which is pretty doom and gloom for most part..........

I have my appointment with the GI in a couple of days..... i guess I am anxious - no idea what to expect... and when I say NO idea - it is exactly what I mean

Been walking around with the results of scan for 10+ weeks now........

If anyone on here has similar stats and experience - trying to connect and understand if there is anything else or more I cam do - read - do

Need I be concerned - no idea even if the results are to the GOOD or BAD side

Again apologies if my post seems to be asking for a medical prognosis

Happy Monday

Hi hunni your spleen is tiny don't worry about that mine was 24 cm and is only down to 19 after transplant, only thing confusing me is why do you have varices when liver seems fine but just could be hypertension am sure you will find out soon enough, like I have said not much you can do until you get a final diagnosis and worrying is not going to help xxx

Hi, my liver is normal too, but I have suffered with varices. They are currently looking into why, but 6 months later, I still don't have any answers. These things can take time and in my case, the new consultant is still waiting for results to be sent from my initial biopsies from another hospital. Just a word of caution that some things can take a while as they rule out what it isn't! Good luck. For the record, they are looking at the possibility of NRH, something I know nothing about :)

Hi @MC1189, thanks for your reply ....... I guess I just need to join the patience train and get on with whatever if is I normally do.......

I have my GI appointment as soon as next week Tuesday ........

I am still sitting here and hoping for better than worse news and prognosis. At the same time concerned that it might not be........ either way can't change anything ..... not how I feel at the moment.

I hope I get an answer faster rather than slower ...........

When you say you have suffered with varices, what did you mean? Do you have any symptoms that affect how you feel or operate ?

Fingers crossed that they resolve the mystery your end and that we can both have a laugh and live forward !

Take care

Up until about 2 1/2 years ago, my AIH (auto-immune hepatitis) was managed with drugs. Then a registrar said something in my bloods suggested I might have varices and so I had an endoscopy, where indeed there were varices found in my oesophagus. They were banded. I had not felt any different, although I was having more trouble getting through gym sessions without breathing difficulties. Since I have presented with varices, this means I am now monitored every 12 months by ultrasound and endoscopy for further varices.

However, I have had a bleed last year (13 months ago) which involved a transfusion and stay in hospital. I felt very light -headed beforehand and was unable to stand for any length of time and since I had had light headed episodes before banding, along with other symptoms, I went to A& E and was seen straightaway, although had to wait a few hours before the varices were banded. The bleeding only started when they started the procedure.

Whilst I have portal hypertension symptoms (i.e. the bleeding and varices in the oesophagus), I do not have anything else in my blood work or liver U/S to suggest that I should have them hence the further investigation.

Whilst it all sounds very scary, I find it best not to think about what might happen, after all, I could be run over tomorrow! So far, while endoscopies are not my favourite thing, (always have sedation), they are over quickly and after a few days, I'm back to normal. In fact after the bleed, I felt better than I had done for ages, although it took a while for me to get back to normal.

I do hope I haven't scared you. I try to be pragmatic and only think about the endoscopies on the day. Since they always deal with any issues there and then, there is nothing to think about in terms of should I shouldn't I have something else done.

Ask lots of questions at your appointment, in fact I write mine down as they come to me and make sure you go through them all systematically.

I really do hope you get the answers you are looking and hope that I have answered your questions. You can always get back to me if not. Good luck :)
