Hi

after having a transplant, how long did it take you to return to work?

Although I had a small problem I had a good contract which allowed me to have twelve months on full pay, so I used that option.

Everyone seems to be different, some a couple of months, some a year or some don't bother again. I had mine six months ago and I asked my consultant at last appointment could I go back, but he said he wanted me to have a few more months off. Best to speak to them and see what professional opnion is. I also know a few people who went back to early, without asking consultant and have put themselves back a few steps.

Depends on the nature of your work and on your rate of recovery from major surgery. I was about two months but much of my work is from home so no commuting and easy to manage breaks when tired etc.

I went back after about 2.5 months. My work involved reading reports prepared by my team and clearing them for publication. I went back about a month too soon as it took that long to get my brain into gear again.

I had my transplant almost 2 years ago. I have an office job and returned approx 5 months post transplant on recuperative hours (4hrs per day) gradually increasing to 8 hr days over 3 months. The first couple of weeks I was wiped out and didn't think I'd ever adjust back into work life. Probably should of stayed off longer as my post transplant recovery was not plain sailing. Now feel a sense of satisfaction having returned.
