fibroscan: just had a result of 31.5 I... - British Liver Trust
fibroscan
A diagnosis of the cause and then treat the cause.
Hi jill5.my score was 27 when I had my first fibro scan on 28 Feb. I have another appt with hepetologist on 9 May for ultrasound. I've been living with cirrhosis for 9 years .I have done all that I can to stay healthy apart from when I fell off the wagon in 2014 when I lost my dad to cancer. To be honest with you i was not expecting it to be as high as it was . I don't know what the next steps are as yet until my second visit. Wished I could help more but try not to worry .x
well done Millie, and 9 yrs on, sounds like you have done very well. So, many people can live with it, if the cause is gone, in this case, Alcohol. xx
Aww thank you Susieanna. I have done the best I can. Even I can't believe I have been living with this now for 9yrs .only seems like yesterday. The hospital admissions and drains .. but yes the alcohol has gone. Hope you are well 😊
Sounds like cirrhosis. Im guessing your specialist ordered the fibroscan; i which case, also i expect you have had full bloods done, maybe ultrasound too? So, i would expect you will now have a follow up appointment to discuss everything. If its due to alcohol, the treatment is simple; stop immediately; if not, you will have to discuss with specialist. It may be the case that you have compensated cirrhosis; in which case the liver will still be managing to do many of its functions; again, grading will be done by your specialist. You will find plenty of information on this site about healthy eating re liver/ info about cirrhosis etc etc. Good luck
Hello, Last Oct I had the same result 32. and was informed this equated to advanced cirrhosis of the liver. I don't drink alcohol so most probably caused by life style, but need to wait for results of test etc. My world was sent into a downward whirl...... and still is, I wont bore you with the details. Since then I have had full blood tests, endoscopy and in january a full liver biopsy and this friday 24th I have my first appointment since Oct with the specialist to discuss prognosis and hopefully treatment. It has been difficult to gain objective factual information about my condition, Trawling the internet can bring some answers but mainly raises more questions and concerns. In terms of treatment I have changed my diet to low sugar, low fat, low carb, low dairy, reduced all processed foods and drink plenty of water and veg juice, supplemented by gym membership and regular exercise. I have found that there is a wealth of information and programmes that profess to support the improvement of this condition, however gaining an informed objective evaluation has not been possible yet. Finding someone to share your feelings and your journey is very important, getting them to understand your condition at least as much as you do is also very helpful. Keep positive :o)
had all ultrasounds/endoscopy last lft's were encouraging, been dry 15 months now, to be honest thought I would have a better result, waiting for appointment with my consultant. is a biopsy likely to be next step?
