Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

If your Dad has cirrhosis then it would be a good idea for him to see his GP or liver specialist and get them to examine his rash.

It is also important for your Dad to get specific advice about any medications or treatments for the rash from his own doctors who know him best, and are fully aware of his liver condition.

Best wishes,

Rebecca

Thanks Rebecca

Dad is at his Doctors just now,as his specialist nurse said his consultant would not look at the rash even tho dad was going hospital today to see if he needs another drain, which he does, hopefully his doctor will be able to tell us more over rash, thanks again for your reply.

Don't know if this will help, but my OH swears by the E45 itch relief cream. Keep the skin moisturised in any case, it will help stop any breaking of the skin if he does scratch and reduce the chance of infection. So sorry for the diagnosis sweetie. :(

Thank you so much for your reply Fizzix50 will see how the cream works that GP has giving him,if no good will mention the E45. Dad isn't to bad at min,he has past what they told him, just so sad seeing a strong man my hero going down hill, feels sometimes as they can't do nothing for him they leave him for anything feel like we are always fighting his side for help, but we get there in the end. Thanks again

Hi, how did you get a specialist nurse if you don't mind me asking? My 76 year old mum is in same situation and we have just been left to it. Mam had a rash like that before her diagnosis and was given anti histamine x

Hi C-turner5,sorry to hear your mum's situation,my dad was told by his consultant that there was nothing they could do & that he would go down the palliative path he then introduced us to the specialist nurse who at the time was in the consultant room with us and he said any worry' inbetween seeing him the nurse would be our first port of call, she spoke to us & gave us her number to contact her but in all honesty,to us maybe not other people she has been unhelpful if & when we need advice ect I always feel like we are bothering her but I won't give up I will shout & scream if I have to just to make sure my dad gets treated like any other human being alive & still breathing, after all my dad was told in 2012 it was all in his head, they will not treat him like that ever again, dad is same age as your mum & honestly I do think age comes into it. Dad has nurses coming out to his home to check on his health no carer's as he doesn't want that we will take care of my dad no matter how long or short that may be. Hope you are coping ok too it's hard to see your loved ones going through the good & the bad you don't know what tomorrow will bring hope you get something sorted & in place for your mum & also yourselves good luck take care x

Thank-you for your words of advice! I don't know anyone else who is looking after their parent in this situation. Mam was told a month ago that the only treatment she can have is steroids but they seem to be speeding up the muscle wastage in her legs so she struggles to walk. Like you, me and my sister look after my Mam and will do so as long as we have. We only have a consultant that we see again on 22nd March. We have no.idea what to expect but to be honest we will just take each day as it comes. Your Dad is very lucky to have you in his corner, hope he is keeping as well as possible xx

I am so sorry for what you are going through. Just wanted to let you know I was in the same situation that you are in. I took care of my dad, he had cirrhosis and I watched him go down hill too. I know how awful it can be, for your loved one and for you. My dad did pass away in October at 63 years old. I am here for you if you ever need to talk or ask any questions!!! Keep us updated.

Thank you so much Lperica10 for your kind words, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad I do hope you yourself are doing ok. I just wish my dad did not have type 2 diabetes as all I hear is if he didn't have it they could possibly make him better,it is hard mostly for dad but he is feeling quite good just now rash is going to,just hope this good episode he is having lasts a while, thank you again take care x
