WHY is no-one seriously looking into reversal and increasing liver function within the NHS???
I have been researching cirrhosis and ... - British Liver Trust
I have been researching cirrhosis and fibrosis reversal for about 4 years. My post grad paper was mainly focused on Hep C
I do believe that they have started. GPs were encouraged in 2007 to screen pts that have had raised LFTs for Hep C - my husband has HCV - cirrhosis and all that comes with it - the HEP C clinic is always fully booked and Nurses have reported that figures of pts with HCV are going up.
I believe that there are probably many people with HCV - who dont know they have it and eventually when they do find out there will be an increase in patients with liver disease - which will again put demands on the NHS probably more that obesisty or smoking.

yes there are... the numbers especially in the over 30's will skyrocket. this is no longer the perceived junkie disease and the faster people learn about this condition the better.
My problem is as you've also observed is support, access to adequately trained staff and treatment.
However there are still options to allow the liver to function well even with the disease and in treatment. Its all over the literature but no one seems to want to pick it up in the NHS
Hi, I would love to read your findings! I think that everyone should be made aware of liver damage and the outcome of lifestyle choices as we are definately in for a big crisis ahead if people are not encouraged to look after themselves more. I worry that the NHS is so stressed and under pressure that people are going to get less and less help to avoid possible health issues and this in turn is going to lead to a breakdown in the NHS. I really wish that the government would target school age children and build it into the training given to teenagers. Prevention is the best route!!!
