ALD gets worse after quitting Alcohol?

I've been dry for four weeks and at the moment feel worse than I did when I was drinking. The mild pain discomfort under my rib is there all the time and now I'm feeling a bit spaced out. Might be blood sugar. I can't work out if this is just anxiety and psychosomatic or I'm genuinely getting worse. Is this common?

i remember stopping drinking many years ago and everything seemed to be worse as it was taking time for my body to get rid of all the toxins and i know giving up things like even tea and sugar can have strange effects on the body. alcohol numbs everything down so when we stop it all seems worse. if things dont settle soon i'd go to your doctor and get a check. what is ALD? i cant see alcohol being prescribed to treat any illness so i dont think it would make whatever ALD is any better. wishing you well.love grace xoxoxo

ALD is Alcoholic liver disease. Thanks Grace. At the moment I'm just self diagnosing everything from cirrhosis to type 2 diabetes. I need to see a doctor and get some tests.

Self diagnosis is the road to perdition take it from me. If you've been drinking a long time it can take weeks/months to get alcohol out of the system and you will almost certainly feel worse. Stick at it - it will improve

Sadly I've been told today I probably have diabetes,. Not looking forward to liver results.

sorry to hear that-an added complication for sure but the treatment works for both so cut down on sugar/alchohol-lose weight if you're overweight and you may turn this around. Concentrate on the diabetes and the liver should improve-cheers

Hi Glen1234

Well done for going drink free!

Sadly, the impact of alcohol doesn't stop when you stop drinking, but I understand improvement should show through after a while - slowly slowly wins the race!

Stay with it, see a doc and get tested. without test results you have no idea what the best course of action is and it is best to catch probs with liver and diabetes early!

Best of luck x

Thanks Geffy. I know inside I will never drink again whatever happens. I've thought about it for a long time but never could bear the thought of not being able to have a drink. Now I can't bear the thought of having one and what I might have put my wife and kids through because of my stupidity.

I wouldn't beat yourself up too much mate - no point on worrying what was done in the past nothing you can do about that-onwards and upwards . Cheers

The 1st four weeks are the hardest! Well done you, keep going! Perhaps you can replace a bad habit with a good one.? Add something hea!thy that preferably you enjoy!

I had my last drink on New Years Eve and I have exactly the same symptoms. Poster mherbie is right, it's usually about a month before the dull ache subsides. Good luck with your abstinence. Obviously if the nagging ache doesn't go away, seek medical advice.👍

Yes before all the toxic waste of booze is gone. Try gatorade, it has electroloites. Drink organge juice, rpeat huge bowls of fruit and good protein but no motre than 4 0Z per meal. You must rebuild your strength.

My dad always felt worse before he felt better. But unfortunately he never stayed sober long. I want to tell you to keep up the good work and I see you said for your wife and kids too. There is nothing more important to them than to have their dad around. I lost my dad 10-12-16 to cirrhosis and this horrible addiction/disease. You CAN do it! Also, I would go get checked out by a regular doctor and/or liver to be on top of things and they can give you suggestions and/or any medicine needed.
